gwalchmai4110 1,757
end of last season I gave my bitch a grueller of a run. she had had a hard night with a couple of tough customers already accounted for. my bitch was very fit at the time and i was lamping her three times a week and working her with terriers in the day. but i gave her "one last run" . it turned out that this was a real un and took my bitch on a merry go round over some big ground running her basically to a stand still. she trotted back to me fine, but i could see her legs trembling and she looked un easy on her legs. i carried her back to the van and cooled her carefully with damp towels and allowed her to drink freely. i coated her up and travelled her home, and she came around grand. my question is........... would electrolytes of helped her cause on this night? do any of you lads use electrolytes? in what form do they come? atb Quote Link to post
major1 6
We use recharge we also use it with our greyhounds Quote Link to post
tote 854
Recharge contains sodium citrate which can have detrimental effects on dogs. As has already been said on the other thread dogs should be able to get all the electrolytes they need from their diet. Quote Link to post
major1 6
we have always used recharge with no effects on the dogs but when I saw you post I have done a bit of research and you are right Edited May 25, 2016 by major1 1 Quote Link to post
South hams hunter 8,921
Isotonic lucozade imo is the best Quote Link to post
stop.end 4,079
as working dog men lets try and keep our dogs as close to there natural wild diet as possible... I have seen a few times on threads folks saying lucozade and mars bars to there dogs after a hard day out... dogs don't have sugars in there natural diet and the reaction from aspertain and glucose in lucozade and chocolate in mars both those items will wreck havoc with the dogs enzymes and white blood cells from the pancreas and liver & can kill a dog within 24 hours! 1 Quote Link to post
