fourtrak73 1,334
I think it is a green crested newt
Malt 379
I'd say newt. Was the skin dry and smooth like a snake or damp and soft like a toad?
Malt 379
In fact I'm 90% sure it's a newt!

king 11,972
Yes dry smooth skin malt.no ponds or pools for a good 80yds then only the river. I've never heard of a palmate newt before jd
J Darcy 5,871
Put it somewhere nice and safe and she'l go about her business...... newts have dry skin most part of the year.... Without seeing her tail it's hard to tell if she is a smooth or a palmate, just that smooths often have a spotted throat.... they can be found a long, long way from water. They only need it to breed.
Hydropotesinermis 724
Yeah I go with Darcy. It's not a Great crested newt. Doesn't look anything like one. Smooth newts and palmate newts are similar but smooth newts tend to have a spotty throat which this one doesn't suggesting it is palmate. Male palmate newts have webbed feet at this time of year which this one doesn't appear to have so it's a female.
