Put it somewhere nice and safe and she'l go about her business...... newts have dry skin most part of the year.... :victory:

 

Without seeing her tail it's hard to tell if she is a smooth or a palmate, just that smooths often have a spotted throat....

 

they can be found a long, long way from water. They only need it to breed. :victory:

Yeah I go with Darcy. It's not a Great crested newt. Doesn't look anything like one. Smooth newts and palmate newts are similar but smooth newts tend to have a spotty throat which this one doesn't suggesting it is palmate. Male palmate newts have webbed feet at this time of year which this one doesn't appear to have so it's a female.
