Tyla 3,179
Would anyone be up for taking an interested youngster out with them to drag a few more away from their Playstations and into the fields? From reading the posts on here seems like theres quite a few youngsters interested but without any knowledge or contacts and when they come on here asking the occasional daft question they just get a pasting. Maybe it would be more constructive to help them out and give them the chance to go out with someone experienced? After all, they are the future of our sport (assuming it has one ) i dont know exactly how it would work but i would be willing to offer a days ferreting or airgun shooting and im sure they are people on here with more to offer There would have to be some way of vouching for them and obviously it would have to be on permission and legal Maybe it could be arranged through the site and / or BASC or a similar organisation? What do you think?
Malt 379
Sound like a good idea. A few of the youngsters on my estate have seen us going out with the ferrets on a sunday and have asked to come. We'll said we'll take them one at a time, and if they behave and don't f*ck about, they'll get taken again.

Little Butch 16
Sounds like a great idea to me, I know what you mean about young people who want to get into the sport but dont know how or have any contacts as i am one of them lmao. If anybody around Ipswich way would be willing to take me out with them i would be more than greatfull (not meaning to sound rude lol) Leon

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Met one of my neighbours lads down the track recently. I was carrying my rifle and he was patently pissing his pants over it. So I asked if he'd like to fire it ..... WOULD HE!!! So, I pointed out where he should be pointing it. Explained the back drop, and the dire dangers of not having such a back drop. Indicated what's what on the rifle. Loaded it. Positioned it for him and let him take over and aim, fire. Look on that young mans face was priceless to me. I'll bet he never stopped jabbering to his mates about it for a week. As I explained to him; 'Ye'll be handling ye own rifle here, one day. And now ye have the imprint of what it's all about already in ye head. Ye'll remember this and so will grow to know it as the way it's done. Good man.' If I live to see that young man out there with his own rifle one day, I'll smile happily. Quite content that he knows the score and will be a responsible shooter with it. Like Schinndler, I can't save them all. But I'd never turn down the oppertunity to introduce any youngsters to how to do things in our game right. And seeing the breathless enthusiasm the simplest of experiences can infuse them with, for life? Bloody Priceless! Make a new, life long Field Sportsman today. Just show a youngster what it is ye do
Guest world.hunters
It can only be good for the future of the field sports and the lifting of the ban, i have taken my younger brother and a couple of his mates out on odd occations and they have all enjoyed it enough to carry the rabbits lol i do think that the more youngsters that get involved now will benifit greatly in the future. maybe if more people were involved now as there was 20year ago there would be no ban. mooster 1
Brilliant idea,my son and his mates love coming ferreting with me when they are home from university which really surprised meat first. They loved it though and made me realise how much kids are missing in their "education". If I might be so bold though,a word of warning.....loony laws in this country mean that you have to be very very careful when out with young people. Avoid being on your own with them unless you REALLY trust them and their parents not to blame you if anything goes wrong. A woman my mrs knows runs a scout group and has asked me to demonstrate ferret handling and skinning a rabbit to the youngsters.Maybe taking them out ferreting would be an option in the future especially with the popularity of people like Ray Mears etc . Not being negative for the sake of it, just would hate any of you good people to fall foul of this stupid "blame and claim" society we are becoming. Cheers,Mooster. Deker 3,478
BASC and the NSC at Bisley (probably a few other organisations as well) already try to look after and encourage the next generation. I would be happy to get involved and help. We all started somewhere, I followed from my father and now my 19 year old lad, (a complete natural with rifles and shotguns) is showing me how it should be done. (you have to let them beat you...in that fatherly way or they get upset) At least thats what I tell him!!! Anyway this is a good idea.......... and I don't want to put any dampers on it... but just consider the society we live in!!!!! This would have to be very well organised, fully insured, chaperoned (young people involved...you know what I mean) legal (you may be involved with complete strangers and firearms, etc) and whatever else I have forgotten! Sadly, the way society functions today may well cause this whole very noble concept to fall flat! Deker
Malt 379
Very true words. Just look at what all the health and safety bollocks has done for bonfire night. Every estate used to have a bonfire, not any more. Maybe that's what the government are trying to do, strangle us with so much regulation that we give up on our traditions. Tyla 3,179
All good points re; H&S (im a chippy so i have to deal with enough of that crap at work!) but cant see too much bother with ferreting or dogwork. As i said before i will get the ball rolling, any lads from Sussex fancy a day out with the ferrets? Dont take the piss though, this an offer to give lads without any permission a go not a free for all on my permission for people who have their own
