I'm sure his dogs had very diluted deerhound blood, 7/8ths greyhound and the like. Used to have a bit of correspondence with tom many years ago still got a few letters about. He kindly offered me a pup free of charge around 1995 but i was unable to take him up on his kind offer the breeding was the same as you quoted. 2 Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,489
I remember Tom Riley writing about being about as popular as a pork chop at a jewish wedding with the landowners, and keepers because of his exploits up in Caithness lol 1 Quote Link to post
darbo 4,774
Word has it that Miss Noble did Redquil Yes, it was her. She used a greyhound over one of her deerhound bitches. At the time some people thought she'd done it to get more speed but it wasn't. She did it as she was worried the gene pool was too small and wanted an outcross. Although she continued to cross back to deerhounds nobody else in the breed would use any of those outcrosses in their own breeding programme, which really annoyed her. A old article i found. was reminded the other day of Isambard of Ardkinglas. Many years ago, Anastasia Noble became rather worried about the frequency of uterine inertia in the breed and decided to bring in some fresh blood. Many people would have thought of a Wolfhound for this but Tasia was not keen on Wolfhounds - she felt that such an outcross would bring in clumsiness and other characteristics which she considered undesirable. She decided on a National Coursing Club registered greyhound because she was looking for overall health and coursing Greyhounds were tested in the field. Now, of course, out-crossing, with another breed is contrary to Kennel Club rules, but in the days when Tasia was thinking about doing so it was perfectly legal. The rule was that both dogs were registered with the Kennel Club or an officially recognised organisation such as the National Coursing Club. The resulting offspring had then to be bred back, to the original breed, for three generations and the fourth generation was accepted into the breed. Isambard of Ardkinglas was that fourth generation. Tasia was disappointed that most established breeders did not use him. She certainly used him and I used one of his sons, Marquis of Ardkinglas. Unfortunately, my records are incomplete, I have only been able to trace this line as far as Sorisdale MacEchan. I don’t know how often Tasia used Isambard or if the line survives in this country. I hear from Barbara Heidenreich, across the Atlantic, that the line survives over there. KENNETH CASSELS 8 Quote Link to post

Omanyra 2,518
They are full deerhound pups,,as are these; Even at this age, where you can look at their feet, AHHHH I still dream about Doxhope deerhounds feet. These are first crossers, between 1990 and 2006 there were only 5 litters of first crossers actually bred at Doxhope kennels, Alan is a great guy, great slipper knew his dogs he had a good running deerhound bitch CorrieThere was another good lad Chris Gilcrest from Cumbria who used to go to the deerhound coursing, and fox mad with his deerhound crosses Edited June 10, 2016 by Omanyra 9 Quote Link to post
