Just read bill Doherty's book on working deerhounds and lurchers interesting and good read, just wondering if anybody is still working and trying to keep this line of dogs going,i tried a platt deerhound x about 15 years ago and to say I was disappointed would be an understatement,i swore I would never have another deerhound x.Never say never I've got another the mother was a platt bred bitch the sire was a bull x.A little bull does go a long way but that takes nothing away from this pups dam she is defiantly a lot closer to what I was expecting from a deerhound x in the field.

I've got a deerhound x who's mother is from David Platt lines

I must of admit she was a bit hit and miss until she turned 3

I did' t get her till she was 18 months and took a long time to gain her trust but now she is a pleasure to own

Certainly keeps me happy out in the field and round the house is a joy

Deerhoundy,s were many,s dog of choice in the not to distant past, with good reason, they are certainly on the decline now and few of them possibly reflect their eminent past.I could readily source a decent working Deerhoundy less than 30 years ago, they were common and grafted, now they are far less common and take some beating if sourced right.

Im possibly the same as the majority on here, never knew him, never owned one of his mutts and was never influenced by him,yet i still managed,as many, many, many others managed to do,grafted a Deerhoundy to its potential, then bred a litter or two and grafted them the same.

I had a 3/4 grey 1/4 deerhound bred down from doxhope dogs I think, His only fault was that he grew too big lol ended up at 33 ats and even by deerhound xs standards that's big lol the dogs drive was good tho and it was steady as a lab, by time it was a year old it had well over a hundred and twenty bunnies to its name on lamp and a few ferreting aswell lol I'd try another tbh if I could see parents graft cos Iv also seen a few deeruoundxs that were pure shite and only fit for a show ring. Would have loved to have tried one from the guy himself tho

A mate owned a dog that levelled out at 34",to much height on Deerhounds was KC influenced, the thing is that big lumbering lump amazed me on more than one occasion, picking up bunny,s in the lamp.Totally agree that the majority bred without a working history,or working use.

Which Deerhound breeder allegedly put a Deerhound x Greyhound into her dogs? Kc Found out years later I think. May have been Margret Williamson or Noble both names ring a bell. Would have done them the world of good no doubt.atb.
