mushroom 13,256
I've no doubt this idiot can do 10 mile everyday. 6days living in the mountains covering a lot of ground and him up and down like it's nothing. I must do around 30-40 miles with him a week; some free, some on lead and some on the skates with him pulling 1 Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
My Airedale lurchers have biked 10 miles without even tiring, and that's being reasonably fit but nothing out of the ordinary. That is at a non stop trotting pace, and they're pulling most of the way. This is up and down hill as well; on a bike track round Grafham Water. On the flat, not pushed for time, 10 miles would be nothing to a fit dog, no matter what size it is. Even a terrier could do that without a problem if youngish and fit. Spot on. My terrier does 10 mile by the bike at least twice a week. She has no trouble keeping up with me and the lurchers. 1 Quote Link to post
mick81 275
10 mile is not a big deal for a dog it's a hour on a bike taking it easy steady trot ? Quote Link to post
Sirblessed 2,511
That is a fast for a whippet ,if he can maintain that speed for 200 m you could race him and he would win a few. Here are times from the same 200 yard track for the whippets (W) and greyhounds (G) doing less than 12 seconds. I think it was at the Windyglen track in Boswell in 2004. Less than 11 seconds is very rare and I believe 10.8 may well be the North American record (Tutty Sue perhaps). krawnden 1,036
Sirblessed - I'm absolutely gobsmacked there are whippets listed there with times virtually the same as - or in some cases even faster than - greyhounds. All I can assume is that Australian whippets are a lot faster than their UK counterparts 'cos there's absolutely no way any whippet I've ever seen could outrun a greyhound. What height are Ozzie whippets? 1 Quote Link to post
VOON 1,317
just wondering,,clocked me beddy/whippet at 37mph last night, straight line running side of motor,,just short of eighteen inches to shoulder,,would this be an average speed for this type of dog? dog averages between 50/80 miles a week running along side bike..yep and he's got muscles in his spit..lol... There's a margin of error built in to the speedometer of a car, the 37 mph you would have seen on the clock would have probably been 32-34 mph in reality, a lot of doubting Thomases on here. 1 Quote Link to post

We race them here too, simular times.. Pure Whippets have a world standard. haven't seen many greyhounds beat a good whippet over 70 yards thats why we use them, correct me if I'm wrong, a whippet has the fastest acceleration of any dog over 40 yards. mad max 40
He's forgot to mention it was 32 inch to the shoulder when it started ??on a serious not mine do 13 mile when on the bike only Because it's the root I take but any one thinking of getting the bike out and going nuts slowly ease them into it starting with a few miles at the start and working up and if kept on a lead like mine part way make sure they empty there selfs first a Or you will be always stopping while they crap and it's a bit annoying and keep an eye on there feet checking for soars until there feet are ok Quote Link to post
