Football Anthems

Recommended Posts

I was reminiscing with my Dad the other day about going to the Wolves ground as an 8 year old, we laughed about his almost ritualistic routine on a Saturday morning before we set off .....

All normal life stopped until it was time to get in the car & go , then I mentioned the crowd chanting & the club anthems .. whenever I hear liberator I always think of the Wolves , not really an anthem as there's no words  .. I loved the atmosphere & the sea of black & gold scarves , we are talking the mid 70's here

It brought back some very lovely memories of me & my Dad & how exciting Saturday mornings where getting ready to go & my glimpse of the ground & how big it seemed to a wee 8 year old ... all the singing & the roar of the crowd when a goal went in

Thought it might make a different topic to break silly season up a bit

So whats your teams anthem , I know a few already such as the West Ham & Liverpool anthem's

Nice post Kay ,I always thought it was a good atmosphere at Wolves .

I remember how excited my dad was when Emlyn Hughes signed for Wolves , it was a big deal to get a fairly big player & personality play at the Molineux

Wolves was always one of my favorite grounds to visit i still have nightmares about that subway going across the big main road whatever it was called :D .....smashing little ground though they could make some noise as well, couldnt really understand what they was saying but i liked that area it was a good competetive footballing area.

As for anthems.......well theres only 2 clubs with old traditional anthems that any fan of any club knows :whistling: ........i mean i hardly think " we,re by far the greatest team the world has ever seen " counts as a club anthem does it !!

Our 'anthem' is "on the ball City!"...we sing it when we go up...and we sing it on the way down...we also sing a lot of songs about how much we hate Ipswich :boogy:

I might be wrong but is that not one of the oldest anthems in existence ?......just a shame nobody knows what it is :D

I remember going to Wolves in the early 70s (73 I think )Liverpool had to win to win the league ,anyway we won ,there was a pitch invasion and my old fella saw me on the telly acting like a divvy ,his exact words were "you want to grow up ,you big gormless looking kunt " that's what happens when you have an evertonian father
