air gun ant 1,666
It's definately on my to do list, but I don't understand Why it's always at night? Do sea trout only feed at night? Quote Link to post
steg 609
Can't answer that one mate..just a normal jack of all trades and master of none me! Fish for them 4 months of the year on the wear..may/june-sept and blank more than i catch. Autumn time onwards i'm chubbing it. A Few get caught daytime on my stretch accidently by the trout and coarse lads daytime and have even had 2 myself on pinkie retrieving the feeder after a bad cast. Get as many on the spinner daytime when the waters dropping after a spate as i do on a night with the fly...just pure bloody obsession and persistance pays off i think! 2 Quote Link to post

Best month for fish when i was a kid was always september,we used to walk the dogs along the river after dark and at times you could hear them jumping everywhere, salmon and sea trout,is it still the best month? steg 609
Aye gets pretty noisey at times mate.. would think people were throwing their dogs in some nights! September.. they entering the river daily/weekly normally from around May time so by September the numbers have amassed and the rivers got good numbers in by then. Not the easiest month to catch i find because allthough the numbers are there, a lot of the fish have been in a while and gone stale and a fresh fish is more likely to take in my opinion. Still catchable like but they make poor eating anyway. August is another tricky month i think with low water and weed without some good downpours. Personally i prefer June and July. 1 Quote Link to post

No and i've only ever caught them in the evening but then that's when i go fishing for them but i'm a heathen and fish for them with a worm and float and not the proper way with a fly .. . 2 Quote Link to post

Yes mate,i lived on the banks of the wear a bit further downstream than you,we always got fresh most times with lice still on them,as kids we used to gut them on the banks and eat the fresh eggs straight from the fish,we didnt know any better in those days. 1 Quote Link to post

steg 609
Give it a go lads.. wading chest deep down a dark tree lined river at 2 a.m in the morning with mist on the water..bat's skimming through your hair, tawny's for company along with the barn owl's, otters and deer... nothing like the feeling of freedom with it.. You're senses really come alive..especially your hearing! Must admit i still get a few goosebumps moments. Then when your fly's swinging round and you're lost in the darkness and nocturnal sounds..BANG! All hell's just broke loose! 2 Quote Link to post
