Lamper121 239
Hi All Today I have been doing a bit of day dreaming about IF I had loads of ground, IF I had loads of money, IF I had a job which allowed me to put as much time into training and working my dogs as I liked (I could go on and on); ....IF I had all these things what would be my dream pack of dogs to suit all my interests? I would want a pack which would suit all my field-sports interests so lurcher work, shooting, ratting, general mooching as well as companions for the family. So logically I would need lurchers, Gundogs and Terriers and maybe a toy dog for the Mrs! Anyway here's my dream team: 1. 3/4 Grey 1/4 Collie - for lamping and ferreting - best all rounder IMO - nice nature 2. 1/2 Bull 1/2 Grey - cant beat a big soppy bull x to lie on you on the sofa and occasionally get you into trouble when out for a walk! Might consider a little Saluki in there... 3. Labrador - nice and docile, to pick up the occasional thing I managed to hit by pure fluke! 4. Parson Jack Russel or Border - I like leggy terriers and not too mad - also like Patterdales' but seen a lot of mental ones which slightly puts me off - just my opinion! 5. Pug - the Mrs likes ugly squashed up faces! Probably why she married me! What about you lot? What is your Dream Team? Second and final question I want to put to you all is if you had to create my dream team pack pack over time, so basically buying and training the dogs year by year, in which order would you buy and incorporate each dog into the pack, taking into consideration the stereotypical temperament and trainability of the breeds? For example would you bring in a bull x once the pack is quite well formed to ensure socialization and avoid possible aggression to a new entry to the pack? Cheers! Barbarian1990 220
I've got a young patter dale now just showing signs of being interested in work. I brought him as a bushing dog as bloke who bread him said sire and dam won't go to ground but I'll see. So my plan is lol get a colliegrey x bull grey next had one before and couldn't fault him for what I wanted at the time. Then a greyXwhippet with a dash of either collie or bull but really racey type And by then I'll know if my patterdale will go to ground so depending on what he does I'll buy a dog to do the other. Only thing that can stop me is the misses hahaha got a great shift at work so have 4 days off a week to get dogs out. No idea what order I'm going for and not 100% stuck to the "plan" as if a good pup comes up from worker to worker who's parents do the jobs I want I'll have it. Quote Link to post

weasellurcher 113
This is fun! If we can imagine all of the things you said im going to pretend their isn't a ban either! I would get bedlington greyhound x greyhound - I like the beddys, making it a 3/4 adding height and speed so that it will not only lamp for rabbits and bush but also give it an easier time on hares. Then a deer grey x collie grey. My kind of hare dog, I'm not asking for a 3 out of 3 regular i like to walk my dogs and let them hunt themselves, if it was to catch all the hares it coursed I'd have no room in my freezer. Also good for the odd deer this dog. Labrador for retrieving, general placidness and helping put a bit with the bushing. Finally a bedlington or leggy Russell for bushing. Quote Link to post
bird 9,969
a good springer for in the day for shooting /bushing maybe a pat for bit of digging, and ive got my lurcher for lamping, so prob a springer and pat. Quote Link to post

Nice selection mate, and totally agree with adding removal of the ban to the wish list! Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
The thought of owning any sort of 'pack' makes me feel quite ill.... Quote Link to post
Moorside 642
In an ideal world which didn't involve work.......(nice thought) id have: A racey collie bull grey/or saluki bull grey for general daytime and lamping etc. A line bred strong 1/2x bull grey.(dog) A couple of black digging terriers. And somthing for bushing/hedgerow hunting/general mooching. Maybe beddy whip x terrier/or collie. Sadly I doubt il ever be able to do justice to that many mutts but its a nice thought all the same.
