toxo 160
Just finishing off a couple of feeders. I'm stuck over how to keep the lid on. I know they can be clever little sods but how clever? First thought was a bit of bungee but will they chew through it? I thought of no hinge and a couple of metal straps going down the sides with a bolt poked through the sides but will they pull the bolt out? Any other simple ideas out there? Here's a pic. Have since put in a sight window and a ledge. Will put up pic later. Paul http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac307/mraquaholic/Squizzer%20034.jpg Edited May 7, 2016 by toxo Quote Link to post
alun 9
why does it matter if they can lift the lid? you want them to get to the food anyway Quote Link to post

mattwhite 1,993
The red squirrel feeders on the estates round here all have hinged lids so they can get at the feed pal..just a thought. Quote Link to post
toxo 160
This is about shooting grey squirrels. The idea is a small hole in the front so they can't get too much at a time. They get used to coming to the feeder every day where you turn up a few days later and shoot them. Where these are going is miles away. I certainly don't want to refill the things every day. 1 Quote Link to post
just-A-snap 1,269
Is not the ledge to large? I always thought the idea is to keep them in close to the feed and not moving around. I would use thin sheet metal around and overlapped on the lid, they can not lift it if standing or sitting on it, also may put them off trying to bite through it. moxy 617
Just screw the lid on. use short screws so you only have to turn them a couple of times. Jobs sorted. Tidy looking hoppers Quote Link to post
