horsedrawn 38
Now that the hot weather is here and I have the most fussy saluki type going concerning food, she won't eat any kibble just started giving her dried meat ,handful at a time on van seat (she's with me 24 hours a day)and soaked in hot water with pasta and sardines. When she emptied out fairly dark in colour so anybody else feeding it and what price. I paid £1.50 a kilo
LaraCroft 863
If the dog is fine in herself, not showing signs of tummy pain, or diarrhoea/constipation etc, then it is likely the diet that is causing it. Dark colour can often be from feeding too much organ meat - anything more than 15-20% is likely to cause it- in the mix. Not all the dried meat packages will list what percent is organ, what is actual tissue etc, so it can be hard to find out exactly what is in it. Round here, it is about £35 for a 25kg sack, but the quality varies from maker to maker, and some have far more organ meat in than others.
horsedrawn 38
Many thanks Lara, the bitch is bouncing (will try and get picture up later) I can take her for 3 plus hours of free running and think big bowl of pasta mince and olive oil for you girl, and she'll pick at it until I throw it away then give her chicken wings. I know my fault for not keeping her on kibble but I've still to figure out how to ask her what she wants, pasta cheese mince sardines wings or salmon skins so the dried meat seems a decent option if she fancies a nibble in the van. Gaz_1989 9,539
If I had a fussy eater I would be tempted not to feed "snacks" throughout the day and would give one meal a day in the hope that she's got a bit of an appetite by then.
horsedrawn 38
Totally understand where you're coming from gas,I've left food for her and told her. Sod you if you're hungry you'll eat this only to see full bowl 24 hours later and she'll be puking bile due to empty stomach. My own fault for giving her too many decent choices but now at 14 months old a very easy bitch to live with speed and stamina to burn and she doesn't take too much space up in the bed. I don't have kids self employed so in the whole scheme of things not the biggest life threatening problem. All dogs are different it's up to us to alter feeding and training to suit each individual dog we have in our care and hopefully they will repay us back a thousand times over, be it game caught or just appreciating them for being the best friend we are ever going to have

Must take a bit of getting used to. It's hard for someone who's not had a fussy dog to understand I suppose. I know TB25 has had hell with his pup and getting it to eat. All 3 of mine are absolute ganets. Weather it's a bowl of dry food, a bowl of offal, a whole rabbit or a bowl of our left overs. It's gone before you can blink. Greedy c**ts. Does she wolf that stuff down? All mine love tin meat. There was a time when I wouldn't dream of feeding it but they get it fairly regular now, especially summer time along with their dry mix and they certainly don't look any worse for it. Edited to add, Aldi do some big tins of meat. Give them a bash. They might not agree with yours but the beef doesn't come out messy at all with mine. The chicken can come out, loose shall we say.
