I rather suspect we will be inundated with campaigning and media coverage nearer the date!

Who will be able to vote? British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens over 18 who are resident in the UK, along with UK nationals living abroad who have been on the electoral register in the UK in the past 15 years. Members of the House of Lords and Commonwealth citizens in Gibraltar will also be eligible, unlike in a general election. Citizens from EU countries - apart from Ireland, Malta and Cyprus - will not get a vote. How do you vote? It will be a similar system to that during other elections. Firstly, if you have registered to vote, you'll be sent a card telling you when voting takes place and where you should go to vote on 23 June. On that day, when you go to the polling station you will be given a piece of paper with the referendum question on it. You then go to a booth, which will have a pencil in it for your use. You then put a X in the box which reflects your choice and put the paper into a ballot box. Alternatively you will also be able to opt to vote by post. devon flighter 421
talk about confusing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, ive just had a look and things changed in 2014, (we are ok but others may not be) and everyone needed to re register ,looks like if you are registered to vote in the may 5th elections you should be ok,copied from http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/register-to-vote How do I register to vote?In England, Scotland or Wales, you can register to vote online at gov.uk/register-to-vote. Registering online takes about 5 minutes. In Northern Ireland, visit our Register to vote in Northern Ireland page to download a registration form. Do I need to re-register to vote in the EU referendum?Anyone who was already registered to vote (or recently registered) before the 18 April deadline for the elections taking place across the UK on 5 May will also be registered to vote at the EU Referendum and will be able to cast their vote. You do not need to re-register. good heads up wilf ,recon alot will be caught out !
devon flighter 421
may help others from: http://www.theweek.co.uk/election-2015/62291/how-to-vote-in-the-eu-referendum-and-local-elections-deadlines-for-2016 Am I registered to vote?Nobody is automatically registered. The system changed in 2014 in a bid to reduce fraud, doing away with whole-household registrations so that every person must now sign up individually. Most people who were already registered were transferred to the new system, but a minority were not. Letters were sent out to inform people whether or not they were on the register but if you are not sure, you can contact your local electoral registration office to find out. You will also need to re-register if you have moved house.
Deker 3,478
I take the point about registering, but the way I see it that is nothing to do with having to register specifically for the EU referendum. That is a general registration of your voting rights. If you are already registered to vote you get a vote automatically in the referendum, there is no need for specific Referendum registration. Or did I miss something? Cheers!

Cheers! dont think you missed anything ! its just the system changed in 2014 and now a lot of people are not on the register that were before, because they MAY not have re registered ! if you have the polling cards for next week it seems your ok ! anyone that doesnt take much notice could loose out, so definitely worthwhile bringing it to peoples notice
