gnasher16 30,217
You sound like you hold a genuine affection for the place still mate and I like that. I understand it too even though I may not share it for the place in general. Sadly over the last years I only ever seen to be back amongst my own people at funerals or court hearings, lots of the old boys are sadly no longer with us. It's funny but I even feel different when I am in that sort of company, it's a million miles removed from my ordinary little life......and you smile and laugh about things that lots of people would find extraordinary and remember some great old characters from when I was a kid. But those days are gone and they were so much part of London for me that it can't be the same. When we was young we did anything it took to get out of the place but over time ive realised you cant change who you are......ive got close pals who still live in the East End,also some who like me have moved out but we still miss it.....i love where i live now its clean, lovely scenery etc ive really enjoyed country life......but ive never felt comfortable here....im a big horrible looking c**t who folk cross the road to avoid round here yet in Canning Town folk dont bat an eyelid.......me and my pals can go in a nice country pub round here and its all whispers and a horrible atmosphere most of my little neighborhood have me booked as one of the Brinks Mat lot ......but back in the East End i just feel at home its a shame in a way i wish i could get rid of all these snobby fuckers and get Canning Town folk round here....like you say interesting characters and just " normal " life. The only real big difference between my part of the east end now and bygone days is Canary Wharf......and to me Canary Wharf is fantastic so the future for me is a foot in each camp....see how that go,s. WILF 47,262
Those snobby new money types drive me mate, it's funny but some of the classiest chaps I ever met came from areas like yours and mine and had absolutely f**k all as kids......those chaps could sit in the best places and talk with paupers or kings and be as comfortable either way. One year they may have a nice roller parked outside some west end place and another they was eating beans on toast after getting back from "holiday" People could learn a thing or two about life from men like that...........they didn't give a f**k about the bells and whistles, being a proper chap to whoever you meet meant more. We need more snot noses in the world and a bit less professional people if you ask me

marshman 7,758
Got to say I still like the area , yeah things have changed but I can't help but still like it , mind you I love London as whole lol . I remember going to cheeks one time and flash Harry Hayward was in there in a full length fur coat just sitting in the corner minding he's own . When this tall attractive black sort come over dancing all seductively around him . He just turn to her and said " go away love I'm trying to think " anyway she keeps on wiggling her arse in front of him . Then just as there's a lull in the music he say in a loud voice " f**k if you black c**t " everybody turned around lol he didn't give a f**k though ?

gnasher16 30,217
The Isle of Dogs hasnt really changed much over the years from Marsh Wall down its pretty much the same old pubs same old houses, all round the Nelson is 20mph now for some reason but apart from that not much has changed Ive always thought wherever extreme wealth is living side by side with extreme poverty it makes for a really interesting neighborhood with so many opportunities on both sides its one of the things i love about East London.....only difference now is the wealth has come closer aint got to go right over to the West End now Canary Wharfs here Edited May 4, 2016 by gnasher16
