Myxi And Your Dog

Myxi has hit big style on land ive got permission on, mine have killed about 30 this week all ages, now tonight there was one up against a sheep fence stood still, my lurcher had not seen it but her nose went up and i knew she would soon despatch it. She went into stalk mode, collie blooded dog, but when she was on it she left it alone and it started hopping away as best it could but she still showed no interest, the look on the dogs face was almost one of disgust. Have any of your dogs reacted like this to them.

I slipped my pup on a Myxi at about 8 month old and she ran up to it, sniffed it and came away. It must of smelt dead to her. She doesn't touch dead game and knows not to. But she had caught a few healthy rabbits at that point.

 

I slipped her on a running Myxi a few weeks later and she never hesitated in grabbing it.

 

Nothing stranger than dogs. Lol

yh iv put my red dog on a few he dont grab them he just running up to them and waiting for them to run away so he can chase but ovsly they dont,so i just stomp them put them out of the pain,i went to a place last week just for a little shine local there must of been 10 dead rabbits just scatterd round the field dead from mixy

Seriously though local to me is heaving compared to previous past 10 years.. But like most areas myxi will take its toll and reduce numbers..one plus is the fox Cubs will get plenty of meat...

All breeds of working dog IMO can tell when their quarry is sick or wounded.

I had a soft mouthed bitch that would retrieve quickly to hand. With myxi rabbits she'd just give them a quick bite and leave them there.

I seen another lurcher that could quickly kill a fox. If the fox had mange she'd just cripple it and no amount of encouraging would make her go back.

Packs of hounds will often break up and eat a fox, the same pack will often leave a mangy fox dead but in one piece.

My old lurcher bitch would catch a mixi rabbit but the really bad ones were left where they were. I've seen all kinds of dogs do the same. I've never taught my dogs to retrieve so if they don't want to they won't. I suppose a well trained lurcher or gundog would retrieve whatever you asked it to.

My lurcher will retrieve live to hand but would mangle a rabbit with mixi, rags the shit out of it. Out of interest, does anybody feed mixi rabbits to dogs, ferrets? I don't but was told that it would be fit for human consumption if boiled, still wouldn't chance it though.

Had a collie grey x grey whpt would retrieve live to hand except myxi rbts would give quick shake to kill it & just drop it where she caught it. Every now & then i'd check em & always myxi. Think she just twigged on that i dumped the myxi ones. Atb

I've fed hundreds of myxi rabbits to the dogs over the years,they ain't took any harm from doing so..I've not eaten any myself but people have done as I'm sure one or two of mine went in with the un myxi ones back in the day when i flogged em lol..I don't think anyone died from my sales anyway haha

Fed hundreds of mixi rabbits to ferrets, dogs and a hawk. My lurcher that didn't always retrieve out working will happily eat a complete ungutted unskinned one at home.
