Stopping Alcohol

Recommended Posts

I frankly don't know how doormen put up with it, especially some of the nice lads I have met.

It must drive them mad.

Drink and stupidity are a bad combination

I just point them in the direction to the boss or the head doorman,,,,much to there disscust,,,lol

i gave up work 27 months ago due to family issues. Then the drink spiralled a bit drinking everyday.wake up the next morning feeling on edge and hungover.used to have a few cans morning time to take t

You need to stay that way socks,,,cos 4-6 cans of cider every night,,,plus a bottle of wine ,,,is called being an alcoholic

All ready is.just started boxing together Sundays too.

I have the odd beer now, but I gave up for nearly 20 years.

When I moved in with my old woman I decided it was time to put away childish things and get on with business.

I never wanted to be one of those useless c**ts propping up the bar at 40 talking about how my old woman left me and being the joke with the local youngsters.

However, I can't be too self righteous because I have never been able to kick the fags and I have the utmost respect for those that have.

You seen the light Wilf so to speak.

The pub up the road.the same people sitting in the same seats or standing in the same place for yrs and yrs.

It's like that film ground hog day.

A month before giving up I found myself in a different valley pub.strangling feck out of a guy in a packed bar.and throwing stools at the bar head gone.because I thought someone was cracking onto my wife.

No good behaving like that.

Normal night in them valley pubs,,lol

It is in your local tomo.but a bit hairy in a pub I've never been before lol.

watching that program last night bbc1 about alcoholics , would put you off drink for life, i do drink have 1 can of carling a night, and 6 cans sat/sunday , compared to them on the show they drink dozen plus wine every day. there livers were in real bad way they were all none were going to live long if they dont quit. i went through mad time in my younger days getting pissed and getting in trouble , i was different bloke when i had drink, to sober  probably to serious / boring when sober, but pissed life.soul of a party. so i though back then feck it it better to be me the real me and not act false , and since then never had any friends :D on the program they must be spending £ 150 quid a week on fags and booze , just to kill there selves feck knows where they get the money from , i rather go to nice place and have nice meal and glass of wine or 1 pint, some people are weak mentally that came over in the program to me

There's a world of difference between the lad having one too many and kicking off with a doorman, and the person who gets through a bottle of spirits at a time, and needs a drink to stop the shaking in the morning.

Alcohol is a dangerous mistress, and we are all one tragedy or one bad decision away from falling down a slippery slope.....

I also watched "Drinking to Oblivion" on Sunday night.

The clips of the young lad in A&E were impossibly moving, and my heart went out to him. As I've said before, on threads about drug addiction, homelessness and alcoholism....nobody sets out to f*** their life up !

I think it's unfair to call them' mentally weak', Bird.

Alcohol is easy to drink, but very difficult to give up. A pint after work, becomes two or three to relax you. A glass of wine easily becomes the whole bottle, becomes two ("it's a shame to waste it, now it's open"), becomes a whisky chaser with the pint, becomes a drink in the morning, to stop the shakes. Now, you're drinking, not to feel good, but to stop you feeling like 5hit !

It's possible to drink every waking moment, but still hold down a job, relationship and so on.

The danger begins when you try to stop.....

I was brought up in a typical Welsh mining village where hunting fishing rugby and drinking were normal everyday activities ... I started playing youth rugby at 15 which pretty much meant I could drink in the rugby club 7 days a week if I had the money ... After that my alcohol education moved up a notch when I joined the army which has a massive drinking culture ... The higher up the ranks you go the more functions party's and general piss ups you are expected to attend so by the time I left having a drink every night was pretty much normal and for the last 3 or 4 years I've been putting away 4-6 cans of cider and a bottle or two of wine every night and a bit more on the weekend ... About 4 weeks ago I suddenly stopped ... I don't know why I hadn't planned it I just fancied a cup of tea instead and I've pretty much been the same since ... All I've drunk since then is 3 cans of cider and 2 glasses of wine ... As of writing this I still have no inclination to have a drink ... Who knows tomorrow next week or next year I may decide I want to drink again but at the moment it's the furthest thing from my mind ... Anybody else had one of these strange epiphanies ........

Me and the missus both like a drink, its been part of our lifestyle/culture for over 25 years.

If im off shift ill drink between 4 and 8 cans a night, if im on, ususally 2 maybe 3 a night.

Mrs would do a bottle of vodka in two days but about 6 weeks back she suddenly stopped?

So conciously/or subconciously I have cut down as well.

Its no big deal between us but I like to think its improving our lives?

Cheers, D.
