Popular Post gwalchmai4110 1,758
delayed post as I have been in Ireland fr the week....... but the Saturday before I went, I woke up to answer phone on my mobile of a farmer telling me they were loosing heavy of one field in particular. this is a late one for that area as the lambs are normally to big and strong to be on the menu for Charlie at this time of year. after having a barny with my wife (as she was moithering me to pack) I shoved my limited wardrobe into a sports bag and flung it into the car!! viola one packed bag!! finally then I rushed off to box a few dogs for the hours drive. I chucked in three of the "white warriors" a couple of lurchers and the beagles for good measure and me and a mate headed off. on arriving the damage was clear to see but in all honesty I wasn't convinced that it was all due to Charles......but something had to pay for the crimes! we tried the first earth with my dog patch but although there was scent on the earth nothing proved to be at home, so we moved on to draw some cover with the beagles and a couple of the russels. after some great music from the little pack ,a fine fox was accounted for making a break for sanctuary. a lovely retrieve by the lurchers. we then tried a big rangy earth and I let a mate try his little tiny bitch that I bred "xena" she hadn't done a lot but was a fine hunter of fox above ground, she dropped in and went through the earth at speed before settling at 1.2 on the old brick. after giving her time to settle I began down to th little bitch who was baying away like clockwork. I broke through and was amazed when I saw the little bitch was right up to her quarry not giving an inch. I drew the bitch and delt with the quarry, only to find another little head poke out! what a great feeling seeing a bitch I have bred come good and hold two fiery quarry where they needed to be. just to top it off I got a nice dig to my big boy "ffloyd" who is continuing to impress me with his finding ability in big spots for a young dog, and he really makes no friends under the sod! good day all round and made my day when my old man came out of "retirement" and did a shift on the banjo. even if he was wearing a hat like a tearaway teenager. great day and some good memories made, and these are always better than dreams! atb 20 Quote Link to post

So yesterday woke the wee fella early doors and off we went good man. no its not nice as im a bit of a nature freak at heart and love these longer days as I can look for other critters, and scout out next season sport. I like to let the dogs have a rest with a bit of son on there back as all season I go at it like a mad man. haven't been able to do as much this season for different reasons but done more than my fair share. lucky enough it wasnt a litter of cubs that was the culprits on this day which is grand as that to me is a hateful job. lovely looking dog in that picture mate. looks a strong un atb 1 Quote Link to post

Don't know how folk can go out there way looking for digs this time off year really isnt a nice time yes takes an odd sort! some little oink turned up at my house asking about dogs only last night.......(my dogs are not kennelled there)....and I invited him in for a beer as I would any one with a shared interest, and I asked him about why he wanted a terrier of my line to which he came out with........"I have dug three litters of cubs so far this year and have a few more lined up but my dog struggles as the tubes are tight, and I heard you have smaller dogs!" I was astonished to be fair and when I asked him his thoughts on having to kill cubs he said it was his favourite time of year! we parted company quite quick after that one!! 3 Quote Link to post

Boys like that shouldn't have any dogs never mind good ones, I don't mind letting the young terriers bush the Cubs when they're up an about June, July time that's only as education. Everything needs a rest to evolve these are the same guys when the winter gets hard going they're indoors 1 Quote Link to post
