Bad news, total rupture! The options are 1k for operation and they told me he won't be the same. Total rest for 6month and see how he goes or put to sleep. They told me I could take the chance and leave it but the two bones rubbing would lead to arthritis eventually. I've going to give it till the weekend but I think it's going to be pts unfortunalty

I would ask for a referral to a specialist I've had them go before but not on a running dog and used a vet in Devizes called ian mcqueen he is very good .worth a look at if if can sort it .not cheep but worth it if it works out atb

Sorry to hear that. Tuff on the soul to have to make decisions like that. We put a lot of time and effort into our working dogs and get very attached to them. Really sucks when a decision has to be made when when a working dog can no longer be both a worker and a friend, just 1. Really pulls at ones heart strings.

excuse my ignorance did the xray show the rupture ? only reason I ask is when mine did some thing to his and the vet couldn't say what really xray showed nothing. He was lead bound for months and it affected him for ages but now over a year later he seems %100 for the time being anyway

yeh 95% dont run right after this type injury , as said i had bitch have it, finished ad 4 year old, but kept her as pet till was 14, she was ok in her self went on walks etc, but could never run quarry again. its if you serious in this game and only want working dogs, then you have to re home or put to sleep , for me i like having a dog about the place as a pet anyway, i just got in another running dog to work.

When you say don't run right how do you mean? He has got tons of determination and bottle, a good hunter and is always switched on. How far off the mark does this injury make them?

by putting twists+ turns in each run, it put lot of stress on the knee, and the dog would limp after few hard runs. so in all honesty i thought it was cruel to push her like that, it was only chasing few rabbits , but she go lame .But she been good bitch had good 4 years out of her had few hares and foxes with her, she was like brindle greyhound in looks, had bit of whippet and collie in her, but say 90% greyhound .

He has got the foot down today but unfortunately I think he will need to be pts. Gutted as he has the makings of a good dog!

Obi u can tell yourself if it's gone by the movement of the knee. No real need for an X-ray I don't think. The knee pops in and out look on youtube

my bitch had the OP called a tie/over, its the ligament pulled over the knee , and stitched back into place. this was in the 80s when this was done, dont know if they do same OP today for the same injury , maybe they found better way .?, but either way the dog never ran proper again, when i seen this post i thought the dog would be finished , dogs can get bust legs etc and still un, but this feckin injury is a bad one for any running dog , that bitch who had the injury , before was very good catch dog great in the lamp rabbits /fox no prob, and few hares in the day, she was making good bitch, but was finished at 4 year old, bloody shame, but kept her till she died was 14, she gave me good 4 years

when i took my dog they was saying about a op were they basically put like abit of elastic were the ligament snapped think thats what they do now,but she still said all this would of done is stop him haveing so much of a limp he wouldn't handled running game again

I've got one that snapped his acl and broke his knee last winter. Took him very slowly and gave the joint a course of cortisone. I've had hun out hunting this season. Hes getting better as the muscle comes back. He still carries the leg but uses it to run jump twist and turn no worries.

He's been too good a dog to pts
