Any tips on improving out of the box traps ??

Ive heard some folks tweak or fettle traps & others just crack on with them..

Ive used the scissor mole traps and decided to get a few more traps.

Ive got a few duffes and Talpex to see how i get on with them..

Cheers

just to stir it up, i disagree about scissor traps especially after tweeking, just a lot of crap unserviced ones about with them crap leaf springs, nice coil spring and your away, using standard sciss

Interesting. You make four posts saying basically nothing. So, if you aren't willing to help the guy and you obviously don't need any advice yourself; why bother reading the forum let alone posting?

Having faffed about with the ones you mention then there are a few tweaks i would recommend before you put them in the Earth's crust.   Dufus Types:   Before I set the trap I know that the trigger

Most were of folks bickering and are non discriptive when it come to the tuning and one fella was on about super glueing worms to traps lol..

its just personal choice if said trap is tweaked.

Some folk will use traps straight out of the box, others like to fine tune the trap so the slightest touch by the mole and it fires.

I have tried both methods and my catch rate seems about the same.

I had some procter pest stop traps recently, they need a really hard push to fire, but they are catching just like the other traps.

You didnt say what type of 'scissor trap' , mate ?,...but if its the larger (heavier) 'Eliza Tinsley', type,....then they definately, will benefit, from an adjustment or two ?,...lol,..the 'talpex', you can set, (in the ground) , at least a couple of ways ?,..i never have used them, extensively enough,...to worry about trying to improve them,....(ive found them ok, too go as they are, anyway ?,....but, im not a great fan, of them,...lol)

Another 'scissor type' is the wee 'fenn' one,......i used them exclusively, first couple of years, (in the early days !,...lol),...They done me ok, but i was too 'thick' then, to consider any adjustments, to try & improve my 'capture rate' ha ha,....cause theres a good one (adjustment) , you can apparently make too these wee traps, nowadays, which helps with them,....
