Terrier15 52
I have a dog pup that is 6 months old, when out he has issues with stinging nettles on his paws. They really bother him to the point where he struggles to keep his concentration until we have found a doc leaf to rub on it. I have checked his paw and there is nothing sticking out. Any advice on this? Quote Link to post
timmy k 591
You've just gotta toughen the dogs feet up, don't forget it's a pup and will have soft paws, plenty of road work will do it but after all said and done some dogs seem to react worse than others for some reason Quote Link to post
Terrier15 52
Cheers Timmy. It happened over 4 or 5 hours ago now and he is still not himself due to it. We do quite a bit of road work but will have to increase this. Cheers Quote Link to post
HPR 1,161
He'll be alright as said above plenty of road work there is somets called tuff foot I think you can put on them . f**k the doc leaf off . Quote Link to post

Any advice on this? Kick the soppy twat and throw it into a patch of spring nettles,OR,realise nettles sting and some terriers become habituated to the fact and hunt accordingly, the rest walk around the nettles and are less useful. neil cooney 10,416
Nettles at this time of year are at the worst. Young ,fresh green nettles sure do sting. To become immune to nettles it takes nettles, LOL. Think about it, if you don't hunt or such for a while nettle stings will hurt but if you're out every day you can handle them. 3 Quote Link to post
Terrier15 52
Yeah - agree this is the worst time of year for them so he will just have to get used to them. When chasing something after the sting he was fine it is just while walking Quote Link to post
krawnden 1,036
I could well be wrong, but personally I wouldn't have thought roadwork would make that much difference to whether or not a dog can cope with nettles. But I'd be interested to hear of any evidence to the contrary. Quote Link to post

Never had to cut any nails on adults before. And very very rarely they cut there pads. I can't remember the last time they did. Quote Link to post
leethedog 3,071
Road work and more nettles is the answer my bitch pup is just about there with them now she is not a lot older than your pup Edited to add we have had young nettles since December here in the south east Edited April 17, 2016 by leethedog Quote Link to post
runem 533
Seen this loads of times some dogs just dont like getting stung of nettles, eventually they start to avoid nettle patches walking around them or even refusing to walk, its just something you will have to live with. Quote Link to post
Terrier15 52
Ill keep going as I am then, mixture of road, track and bushes etc. Hopefully the more nettles he sees the better it will get. I'm southeast as well leethedog so assume we have been fighting a similar battle with them! Quote Link to post
