was just winding katchum up a bit mate from another thread but I think theres a lot of kc whippets being bred for the coin..

Won't get a whippet for less than 3 ton these days, sad but true

The first Whippet i owned cost 50p in todays money,ten bob in the day,mullered bunny,the odd Hare,i think her running serenade put the odd Hare off and they quit rather than be serenaded,she had an uncanny knack on water hen,ive never had a dog since that caught one.Many years later when visiting a Whippet race meet in Barnsley a mucker picked up a 22" Whippet that outgrew its class,that made a more than useful hunting jukel and killed many an Hare,with vocality.A while later these Greyhound infused sprinters gained popularity and kennel names and the dollar chasers sprinted faster than their charges to milk the populace.Happy days,honest hunting,yet they were more often than not found out in the field,a sad fact of reality for such an honest and exhilerating hunting companion.

if anyone is interested in a working whippet,my mate will have em soon enough and they could be got for a song,real low money as thats not why he bred them....he bred them for one for himself and 2 mates,genuine workers both parents but mainly rabbit,

Good days back then most dogs were grews not whippets as described by KC standards, 32lb top weight in the club i ran with, dual purpose dogs racing opens sat sun, coursing whenever, my dogs laid a lot of bunnies to rest and a good few hares. What gets me on this thread is what do people expect from a whippet its basically a rabbit dog, why all this crap about doing fox and deer, yes some can , but they arent in their comfort zone. If you needed a dog for bigger quarry why choose a whippet, other types can do the job better, You wouldnt race a maserati on tarmac roads with a landrover, nor would you race a maserati on ploughed fields against a landrover. Once again the old adage horses for courses.
