pianoman 3,587
That is a lovely colour coming through Jimmy. I'd like it a little darker maybe but, it is certainly looking very well and very nice indeed. 1 Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
That's looking amazing now Jimmy. Just as I like a stock to be. Not too light, but not too dark with rich browns in the tones. Lovely! To be honest, I think this may turn out better than the stock was originally finished at Weihrauch You definitely have a great talent here for this kind of work my friend 5 Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Well I'm up and awake early this morning and having a fresh look at these pictures. It's pissing down outside so the planned dawn shoot with my HW77 .22 has been cancelled. I'm loving how the butt-stock is showing its grain-lines and the gold-fleck grain on it and of the forestock looks wonderful. I't just like it was when I bought the rifle back in 1998. And better in places! And I can still see places along the grain of the underside of the fore where it has worn out the surface and layer of varnish in my leading hand over the years. It's like you have given her a complete renewal and yet retained something of her shooting history as a long well-used hunting companion. That's just about as perfect a restoration of a cherished gunstock anyone could possibly get. I love these earlier pattern Weihrauch stocks. They are a bit slimmer and a little more elegant to handle than the later and current pattern HW80 stock I'm dying to see what the last coats of Tru-Oil finish the work off like. Not to mention when you bring her down and she's mated to her metalwork again, Jimmy... I think this year, my other guns will be not so well used as I'm itching to take my beloved HW80 out on the rabbits and pigeons on my farm permissions here. Just the kind of terrain she was intended for. Miles of open landscape, no main roads near it and no-one walking a dog or riding horses to bother me on my shoot.I'm going out this weekend with her in her reserve stock and get some sport in with her if the weather is with us. There will be no more forays out in the cold rain and wet grounds for this beauty anymore now. It's going to be strictly kept to warm summer evenings and dry dawn shooting only! 1 Quote Link to post
