Snaring Squirrel

going Av a go at snaring some squirrels with my lad was looking for some advice on best snare wire to use and what hight to set it ...

 

What size hoop should I use on the snare 2" ??

 

How high should the bottom of the snare be off the pole 1" 1/2 or 2" ??

 

What's good bait ? Keep seeing beaut butter been used on google images ?

 

And what's the best snare wire to use and were best place get it from.

There is a good article in the pinned posts about snaring squirrel. I have snared quite a few useing 4 strand brass wire and stainless wire .Pike fishing trace wire is also good . As for the height you set them that depends on the thickness of the branch/pole the thinner the pole the lower the squirrel will run .Bait i use a mesh bird feeder filled with whole maize .This works very well due to it being yellow .The squirrels see it from a long way off and the little birds such as blue tits cannot peck it from the feeder

Cheers fenn I had a look at that arrival but it said to set the bottom of the snare 4 1/2 inch to the bottom of the snare wich I thought was rather high

Like i said it depends on the thickness of the branch .Glenn who wrote that explained to me over the phone how to snare them .He knows his stuff fair play to him . Tell you what thoe it becomes addictive snaring squirrels lol .Have fun !!

4.5 for squirrels is far two high. 2 inch is about right, for best catches set poles baited for a few weeks then set 4 snares on each pole don't forget swivels.

Bodygrips baited with corn cobs is all I use now, it lofts or gardens.
