inan 841
http://vision.rambler.ru/users/stepikz/1/2/ Tazi on wolf I think most BullX's would get themselves in a whole lot of trouble on a wolf. I agree I dont beleive any dog would take a fullgrown American or Russian wolf on its own ,and I dont care for these vids where you have several dogs attacking one animal ,to me it is baiting not sport, and probably a bagged animal anyway,it seems a miserable practice to me,any animal deserves to be taken out as quickly as possible ,that poor wretch will probably be put in a cage and brought out time and time again, similar to a video of a wolf on a long leash with teams of dogs attacking it shown a while back on You Tube ,its just wanton cruelty to me . Paid 935
I agree that bagged, and caged stuff is really just baiting. Also from most accounts, very common in some parts. Also, that went on far to long for me, better ended fast, as you say. But "that poor wretch will probably be put in a cage and brought out time and time again" surely isnt the case here, that wolf is dead. Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
I agree, that it went on for a long but that appears to be what it takes to catch and kill a large wolf with dogs, short of using a gun or a large shepherd dog like the in the other video I posted once the wolf is caught, how do you make it quicker? You see the wolf go at the dogs and now and again, were it not the other dogs the wolf rushing the wolf, it would likely kill the dog. If it was a bagged wolf would there be a need for the Laika (tracking dog) which is present?? Quote Link to post
Guest DogFaceKillah
Intresting topic, do these dogs retire at early ages as i thought if a good, male wolf weighing over 100 pound inweight got into a running dog i would think it would make a mess, and deffinatly put it out for a few months, these people must go through dogs like i go through women! and i go through alot! dirtwinger 235
You should keep a couple of Pits or Dogo's for the end of the chase 'Dirtwinger' Butch I've no plans to hunt wolves(illegal anway) or coyotes for that matter, so a dogo or pit wouldnt be very useful. I think my lurchers can handle a hare or even a coyote by themselves. Last coyote I took was a accident out after hares, my mate has brothers to my dogs and they took a coyote by accident last year too. his falcon took off after the coyote and started hitting it and the dogs joined in, end of coyote. The only person I know personally that has caught wolves is my girlfriend and she caught them with nets! th e wolves were bigger than her but real scared of people. She just jumped on them and held them while they had medical tests done on them before releasing them. Said they smelled awful, carrion and old dogpiss was how she described it all the best dirtwinger Quote Link to post

Interestingly the wolf at times seems to be adopting the submissive posture, rolling on to its back , but maybe its trying to guard its hindquarters? Quote Link to post

Not her usual biology field but they needed a few extra hands. The wolves were tracked with radio collars to a blind canyon then herded down into longnets. Once caught in the nets they just gave up, very submissive and scared was how she described them. I've seen similar behaviour in coyotes on hunts. A few times we caught 5 coyotes in one morning and the dogs were too tired to kill the last one. The coyote would just sit under a bush and let you walk right up. It would snarl and snap at the dogs though. I just walked up put a foot on its neck and stuck a knife in. Wild wolves are terrified of humans in general. Its only when they breed with dogs that they become a danger. One wolf here in new mexico had to be trapped because she packed up with feral dogs and was pregnant. all the best Dirtwinger ps she is some woman Quote Link to post

dirtwinger 235
I should also add that the wolves were mexican lobos and I believe weighed about 90 to 95lbs. My girlfriend is about 4ft 10 and weighs 89lbs so she was only a fraction smaller than the wolves. i believe all the other trappers were women too. My girlfriend has a history of encounters with large predators, as I joke she is within everythings preybase. She has been stalked by a mountain lion and attacked by a grizzly in Alaska. Her philosphy is if something eats her in the field thats just nature and oh well! all the best Dirtwinger Quote Link to post
