Scrub with hot soapy water and nail brush ...then get chemical mould and mildew remover especially for the gaps in skull plates as peroxide wont totally remove this when whitening the skull and will leave dark marks in gaps ....

Do not bleach the skull untill you have stained the horn it is best to cover the skull with new paper paper and tape it up so you dont get stain on it

Never used brown shoe polish I use pertasium permanginate and oils ....like I say its very time consuming and requires a lot of rubbing and sanding the tips so it blends in and looks natural ...

Once you are happy with the head the best way I have found to bleach the skull is to soak torn up bits of tissue in 30% peroxide paste and put it onto skull.

hope this helps

Mic beat me to it potassium permanganate mixed with water is what I have used you have to experiment with the amount of water needed it will look purple but will turn brown/ black when it dries it is better to apply some and let it dry if you do not want it to dark.
