gnasher16 30,118
The schoolboy worship a couple of you lads have for Fury is funny as f**k ! I remember us young lads arguing about the Muhammad Ali - Leon Spinks fights as teenagers you look back now and think what a load of old bollocks that was.....history is good like that rivalries that meant so much at the time pan out into insignificance,in 50 years time nobody is going to remember Joshua or Fury they just havent impacted sport enough. Its funny i often think how the Yanks will look back at this era with embarrassment at what they've done with Wilder.....all the iconic heavyweights they've had through the era's from Dempsey/Marciano/Louis/Ali/Frazier etc etc.....then in this generation such was their desperation to continue ruling heavyweight boxing they threw in a ringer like Wilder I hope we never see another American heavyweight champion they'll soon lose interest then. One of the shittest title fights I've ever seen. With a strong referee who wouldnt tolerate Fury's mauling and leaning David Haye for the first 4 rounds would have been an absolute nightmare for Fury .....pinpoint accuracy, decent power,explosive.....on a purely boxer versus puncher match up id have fancied Haye there. Different type of fighter completely but similar to Usyk/Fury the outcome could depend on the referee....Usyk is a far superior fighter so if Fury's not allowed to use his size advantage because of a strong ref who wont tolerate his antics theres a good chance Fury ends up getting disqualified. Ali had no real size/weight advantage....when he held in the clinch it was for the same reason any fighter holds in the clinch, not to drain his opponent with a 6 inch height and 3 stone weight advantage like Fury does....likewise Lewis/Klitschko were both the same size.....and no holding and hitting is not permitted and shouldnt be tolerated by any decent referee....particularly when one fighter is gaining a significant advantage from doing it. I remember refs years ago like old Harry Gibbs or Dave Parris would of given you 2 warnings then you're out of there.....a referee is there to not just uphold the rules but also to encourage a good fight. Fury doesnt " tie up " he mauls......he doesnt " hold " he drags his weight down. Dont be afraid to say it he does these things for a reason and it works. Regards the Ali/Frazier bouts you are wrong, but such iconic fights just dont belong in a conversation about Tyson Fury sorry.
