Other than that, when he was home, the only thing that he'd have on the telly was football, horse racing, snooker and the news!!  Lol

Your last sentence is so incredibly naive and silly it barely warrants a response........but Frazier was possibly the gamest man to ever lace a pair of gloves on......and Ali wasnt far behind.

My ol fella used to say watching a few of Fraziers fights would bring a tear to his eye......hard to disagree really.

Just killing a bit of time on these long hot days....what did you make of the Foreman v Frazier fights mate just out of interest ?.....2 very strange fights for me that ive never quite been able to put my finger on as regards how they played out.

On more than one occasion, when I've been trying to explain "gameness" to friends who aren't familiar with the term, I will always point them in the direction of the "thriller in Manila" the conditions they fought in, temp/humidity etc, and the non stop action over 14 rounds, both men pushed themselves above and beyond. I believe Ali said that's the closest he came to dying, futch thought Joe was at genuine risk of doing just that! I've watched that fight so many times, and  If Ali was the greatest, well, ol' Joe was most definitely the gamest....

I remember being amazed and saddened watching  the first fight. I think Joe was caught early on on the temple. He didn't go down but I think his head was scrambled from then on. Foreman found his range so easily. Frazier didn't seem to know how to get inside and seemed to stand off him and allow Foreman dozens of free, really punishing punches.

In the second fight I think Frazier tried to learn from Ali , he backed off and stayed on the ropes a lot. He seemed to abandon his major strength...relentlessly coming forward. It didn't work, Foreman found his range again and bludgeoned Joe. 

I think some boxers are only at their best for a short time. Three or fights maybe. Joe must have taken hundreds of heavy shots not just in fights but in sparring. He wasn't the same man who fought Ali in their first fight, that's for sure.

I was a big follower of John Conteh. When he met Saad Mohammad he just seem to roll over and offered no resistance. He said himself his punch resistance had gone. He put it down to whoring and coke. I guess, as I say, some fighters shine brightly but not for long.

What's your take on the Frazier Foreman fights mate?
