I have had a HW77 for more years than I care to mention, and a couple of years ago I was given a brand new 97 stock, so fitted it to the 77.

Absolutely great with a new genuine spring and piston washer she is really accurate................. but too bleedin' heavy now that I am a decrepit old pensioner

Anyhow today I bought a brand new HW57, which is lovely and light in comparison. Anyone owned one of these rifles and if so is that loading breech a problem at all.

A chap at my local club has one in 22. He went from a HW97 as, like you, it was getting a bit heavy for him.

He is really pleased with his HW57 and I must say it is very pointable and good to handle.

He has intermittent problems with his loading port and has learned to live with it. He did take the rifle back initially.

I am surprised that Weihrauch being a known good engineering firm, haven't sorted this once and for all. Maybe it is a consequence of the design.

Wasn't the pop up port pioneered by BSA with the Merlin? I think this was their only ever model to feature it though.

Blackpool Airguns sell the HW57 but have a warning disclaimer about the breech issue.

So.. it is a fine gun but the breech is prone to popping in an uncontrolled fashion. Yours may not suffer it and best of luck with it.

Give it a lot of use in the early days and take it back if it becomes a problem.

I have been reading about that loading port.........................hoping it has been sorted as it is a new gun.

Just like me to buy the only German gun that doesn't work properly ...........................

HW77 in an HW97 stock makes a beautiful looking rifle but it is a hefty result. :hmm: for some shooters trying the mix.

There are a few Youtube vids of people who have an HW57. All seem pleased and happy so, perhaps the pop-up breech issue is only affecting a small percentage of these guns? Surely Hull Cartridge would be duty bound to put it right is there was. Christ! Doesn't anyone :censored: check a gun before sending it out to the retailers anymore??

Would a pop-up breech limit the length of scope you can fit too though?? :hmm:

Unlike a lot of young lads with air rifles, I don't see the need to fit a scope that is capable of seeing the canals on Mars ;) so the scope isn't an issue at all; Just mounted a nice Simmons 3-9X40

I always felt nervous when shoving my fingers in that gin-trap of a loading port that the 77 used, even though it was fitted with a gubbins that was supposed to stop it snapping shut. So when I bought this 57 the loading port seemed a bit safer. Can't get out to shoot it yet though because other more pressing matters have arisen and I am stuck in sorting out family shite

I'll make a proper review once I've shoved a couple of thousand pellets through it.

Hi

I bought a HW57 just because I believe that it can't really be that shit!

Going buy all the reviews and bar at Blackpool .

So I thought there is a challenge, and I can say my finding at 25yds,it was grouping under a 5p coin 18mm.

However if you shake the rifle back n fourth, you can hear how loose a fit the pellet is in the pop up breech.

I would like to see HW redesign the breech with a O ring recessed ,so it gives the pellet some stability.

Nice little under lever ,but the HW 99s is much more better, and accurate out to 65yds.

Would I buy another or recommend no I wouldn't, but would recommend the HW99s,and have done and the young lad is over the moon with it.
