Iv allways kept my lurchers/whippets kenneled outside. I think they are more healthier and dont get bad habits ect.

They know their place and dont shed hair in every nook and crannys of the house, including on food ect!

When i let them out of their kennel in the mornings, they are happy to see me and dont want to leave my side.

Now, i have nowt against folk who keep their lurchers ect in doors, each to their own.

Infact, some say, a better bond is made?

I personally think, this all depends on the individual dog and breed.

So, where do you keep yours folks, vote away.

This Poll, is just to see different folks points of veiw and experinces, not ment to be this is better then that, so no silly bickering please. :)

Cheers.

Too many near misse's with the dog thieves to leave mine outside now.Kennels are well secured, but i've seen the lengths these b******s will go to,to get your dogs.Mate and his neighbour had fence panels lifted, and the locks bolt cropped, his dogs weren't anything special, but thye still went to all that trouble, but luckily they were interupted. On more than one occasion i've had c***s pull up in transitsand start looking over into my garden, when i've pulled them up its always "just seeing if you've any scrap you want rid of".Mine are out in the garden, but at night, and when the house is empty i bring them into the utility room.I agree, dogs should be kennelled, but not always a viable choice with so many dogs being stolen. Each to there own,my old man wouldn't let any of his dogs set foot in the house.Jmo

Thanks so far folks.

Interesting. It seems, sadly enough, the ever increasing menace, the dog theif, is dictating the way we keep our dogs, why cant police resorces ect, be put into this more to stop it, rather then give it to chasing folk with a helicopter who are after a few hares? !!

Sad fact is Frank,we all know the type of people who are stealing the majority of these dogs, and there never in one place long enough for the police to be of any use.

It does make it harder i suppose. But, if more money went into it and a promt ivestigetion, not a day or so later, looking into it, then prehaps they would be cought?

These dog theives seem to be getting worse!! Not a day goes by hardly on this forum, where some poor sole has lost their worker.!

That I dont agree with Bill, I feel its more to do with the police

not wanting to get involved, so they turn a blind eye.

No money in it for them, they would also have to step out of there nice warm cars.

Guest little lurcher

i prefer keeping dogs outside for several reasons , also i am allergic to dogs cats and horses ( yep you guessed what i got too!!!!!!!!!!!)

dogs coats are better with fresh air following , but kennels should be warm and free from draughts , i use heat lamps and convection heaters with duvets, the runs are covered and dogs are loose in yard all day , i even have italian greyhounds with very good shiny coats living this way too which is something in the show world very much frowned on

i have my big lurcher indoors and 1 italian , but have to say their coats are nowhere near as good as the outdoor dogs , however now i have opened the window in kitchen where big girl is coat is much better.

i have a pack of 10 here and recall is excellent and i find i do much more with them on a 1 to 1 basis as time needs to be spent to reinforce training , i am guilty as many are for constantly telling my indoor dogs to go lay down , get to bed etc ? i have also found any pups i have bred outdoors have been easier to housetrain

i have cctv and locks for security

I keep mine inside but I also feel that one of the issues that stops me from Kennelling is that I'm worried about the neighbours complaining about the racket that the dogs would make while they settle in; If you live near people they don't like you having dogs in the garden and if you live in the middle of nowhere it just makes you an easier target for theives. I think dogs are more and more likley to be kept in house in the future for these reasons; But I would prefere to be able to keep them out kenneled.

As for whats best for the dogs I think that as a dog ages and matures it is ok for them in the house but I would always want to keep a pup outside if I had the choice since I don't, I always crate train them them for the first six months or so as I feel its good for them to be resticted at meal times etc as it teaches them not to beg and makes life easier for them and you.
