Bushing Around Town

Years back well before the ban we did a lot of bushing foxes around allotments and small holdings around towns. I found that the foxes sat tighter in these places some even faced the busher. I put this down to the town fox getting away with bullying the cats and bin dogs but I could be wrong. Did any one find this and did the lads that worked the open country side find the fox would ever face the busher. Sorry about my pic like said it's along time ago atb Trev.

Great sport, I read an article somewhere ages ago in a book about lads bolting foxes from hospital ventilation pipes.

I started off with bushing out of allotments,gardens,back gardens,railway lines,scout huts, in fact anywhere the fox could be found then we would take them there, we hunted for skins after the autumn moult,once they were in their hard winter coats we would hammer them, we would get loads under pigeon lofts or chicken huts, sometimes they would be lying up in cover nearby, we would not get a second look from joe public back then but now its a very different story, everybody has a phone and is an expert on the countryside lol's, the foxes in town used to scavenge out of the old tin bins,they could even tip them over to get at the food stuffs put in there,around where I live the fox population halved in months when wheelie bins came out, tips used to be good for catching both foxes and rats but now with all the spraying and health and safety rubbish they all have security on them, WM

We too did the earths and drains in these areas but I'm talking about the one's that laid up in the cover. I'm not saying they all sat tight, I once saw 5 bolt out of a 4 meter bramble but a good amount did, I couldn't see what was going on in the think cover you could just here them carrying on giving the lurcher time to jump in and finish the job off. Just wondering if any other lads got a few this way and if any one got them this way in the country side.

There was one in a thick bit of brambles in my garden last year, my mums 10 year old (pet) Jack Russell flew in after him and he legged it. See a fair few on the streets near me and all look fairly healthy.

they can get ballsy when there used to humans and lose they fear of dogs from facing pet dogs and cats off,thats why they will sit there that little bit longer and it will be there undoing.

A mate doses really well with his terriers local,factory's/rubbish tips/river banks all types of waste grounds knocking them out cover or to ground.atb mud

They were good spots the river banks and around the land fill sites.

Never bushed at the back of supermarkets too many cars for the runners but there was a good drain at the back of Asda, right in front of the fire exit door lol

Trev, we had some mad times killing them in town, 3 of us once trekked all day in the snow at Xmas one year checking earths and cover around all the known places both in the fields and around factories,etc,anyway we had drew a blank and on the way home in the middle of Birkenhead I suggested stopping on the corner of a main road where I'd picked up a massive dog fox off the road for skinning the previous week,there was a scout hut up off the floor on bricks that looked ideal for a quick bolt so out we got, 3 lurchers and we took just one terrier for the bolt, it was enclosed in its own car park with a 7ft high wall all around it, my mate got one end,me the other and my other mate slipped in the terrier then took his place by the gate entrance, the terrier was "on" yapping straight away, out comes 2 fox heading straight for me, I let them get clear and slipped my bitch,she pinned her fox like the old hand she was and the other headed for the gate,as I was despatching my fox as quick as I could I could hear bedlam going on as my mate chased the other up the road, I threw down my dead fox and ran up the road to see my mates bitch doing the grand national over 3ft high walls and fences of the adjoining front gardens of the houses,as I got to him she was making hard work of it with a noise that would wake the dead, I quickly killed it and we ran back down to the hut only 50yds or so to see my mate stood watching his lurcher with a massive fox in the middle of the main road, cars blowing their horns and buses at a halt, luckily it was starting to get dark so it was difficult for most to see what was happening, he ran out and scruffed the fox with the lurcher still attached to it,we pissed ourselves laughing later but at the time all we could think about was getting away as quick as poss, there was a church at the top of the road and old grannies were stopping to take a look at my mate,people had come out the houses to see what was going on as we put the dogs,foxes and ourselves in the van and made a quick exit, at that time we killed more in town than in the countryside, we used to do a bowling club right in the middle of the houses in town on a saturday afternoon with all the members in the bar,that was permission so a good place for us anyway one saturday we arrived just before dark,took up our places on 3 sides of the clubhouse,slipped in the terrier as usual but no bolt but a steady baying,after half an hour we knew it wasn't going to bolt,there was a wooden floor inside this old place so out came the locator,we moved some old boys and their table before peeling back the lino,getting a saw on the floorboards,the old boys just carried on drinking as we pulled the floor apart,we got out the dog and killed the fox,put back the floor along with the table and old boys without anyone turning a head,they just carried on watching "Dickie Davis" and world of sport,we came back in to see the steward offering to replace any lino that was cut to a resounding applause by the 20 fellas in there, it turned into a piss up anyway not getting out of there until 8ish, mad but happy days, WM

Terriers were safe enough Trev places we did we always check there was chain link fence to keep dogs on our side, cover on the sides of the cut as well used to produce them days you seem to find in a lot of places you wouldn't think of going near now, for digging also. Atb Flacko

One of bigger spots we did a large land fill site. One lad working the bushes and me and a couple of mates stood in our different spots of choice with a runner each hoping he bolts from the cover and comes our way.
