Pellet Impact - Could Less Be More?

Recommended Posts

Mr Pittaway's doing a big push for the .25 calibre on gaybook at the minute with his new SFS Snipe.

We'll all be getting twenty fives soon, watch this space :)

I'm not too sure on .25s. I've only owned one - a Matador. It was awesome on rats in a stable.

I just found it too loopy at sub 12. I always felt that it needed to run at 40ftlb+ but, I don't have an fac :(

Honestly. 12 ft lbs is not much to go with as it is. And true to say, there are always flyers and runners. Ammo is not always as consistently made and sorted these days as it should be.   15 to 20 F

It's not wise to have comments on how effective low power is taking currency. Next thing you know we'll have Terry Doe and the Airgun press editors advising the Government Home Office that the consens

Mmmm As usual, laws and rules set by people in power that " just don`t know".   12 ft/lbs limitation on an air rifle and you must be 17 to go out on your own with it.

Bigger hole in paper

Haha that'll do it then Mitch

I have a great deal of respect for Si Pittaway. He's an old friend of mine and we've shared a lot of shooting together. But the lad seems to chop and change his air rifles every week these days!

He's the best spokesman Sandwell Field Sports ever had :D

I will say quite honestly Mitch, Sandwell Field Sports always did some lovely custom air rifles of their own in the past. They had a beauty called a Banshee years ago now. Based on a Weihrauch HW95 I think, with a Custom Stock CS500 walnut stock and their tuning gubbins inside. It really looked very beautiful. Saw it in an Airgun World Buyer's Annual of about the year 2000.

Fair play to them. They do a really good job on tuning an air rifle. Especially a Weihrauch spring rifle.

Seems to be a favourite maker with Tony Wall.

Wouldn't mind a .25 springer at all :p

An old boy at my range has just got a .25 springer, it is some sort of bsa airsporter or something. Fitted out with a 4x32 trujicon, right little outfit. The other guns he has are all .177, hw100, daystate, impact and the like, so I was pretty impressed when he turned up with it. Much to my delight he says it's devastating on the bunnies

I`ve a Webley Patriot .25 running @ 31 ft lbs with a 31g pellet. Very effective @ upto 50 yards on Rabbits!

I`ve three sub 12 air rifles, two in .177 and one in .22 cal. They are also "very effective" @ up to 50 yds on all vermin with correct shot placement.

Talking about Tony Wall i emailed Tony a couple of months back about tuning my T Rex. Tony was in the shop when i emailed (9 pm at night) and replied to my enquiry immediately ending up in a small email conversation. Lovely knowledgeable man.

Basically told me he would not take my gun and money as he thinks he could not better the T Rex 200 HC mk 3 from how it arrives from Air Arms, he thinks they are a wonderful rifle. :good:
