Recommended Posts

A good friend has a lovely litter of terriers 5 weeks old and his lurcher bitch who is only 18 months old her self gets in to the kennel and kills 3 of the pups !!

I not looking for people to say "you should of kept them away "

Would you keep the bitch !!

As gutted as i'd be, if the lurcher was a decent animal in her own right, i would put it down to my error and if i could forgive and forget, keep the bitch.

Dogs that have no bond can be jealous, spiteful things and the way we choose to keep them (kennels, almost seperate lives etc) can trigger quirks in their brain. Sometimes simple nievity and ignorance about life can bring out the worst in dogs.

If he can move on, keep the bitch...

It's a shame because she had everything going for her . Her first real season just gone and picking up rabbits day and night and with out with the ferrets and all good. So what would you do with her !!

A brilliant answer! So many people have no idea how a dog's mind works, or don't even know if their dogs are stressed, unhappy etc. Anyone keeping dogs of any sort should read something like Jackie Drakeford's 'Dogs in Mind' book.

she still has everything going for her this is totally human error and know fault of the dog, why get rid of a dog because of your mistake?

I had a saluki base lurcher many years ago who despite being a amazing dog in the field turned rouge at around 18months of age too . She was stick trainned use to ferrets . She wanted to hunt from the time her eyes opened till the time the closed . One day while ferreting she killed a ferret that was the start of it she then she got out and kill a sheep so I had to get her PTS , but I would keep a close eye on her if you intent to keep her , but some dogs develop unwanted traits even with the best will and training in the world . Good luck with it . But can you have dog you can't trust .
