Guest Navek
Anyone recommend good meat birds . Not after anything expensive as the birds won't be for sale just home use
HedgeCrawler 224
Try Cob or hubbards they grown well and produce a nice sized bird for meat alternatively try light Sussex if you want a more traditional bird, takes longer to mature though..Chicks or hatching eggs can be bought cheaply enough. forest of dean redneck 11,752
There was place in Somerset ,smart chicks? They had sassos which supposed to be good ,didn't go off their legs like others are prone to . Though I just checked looks like smart chicks not trading any more.? Treehands 1,417
Tried cobs a couple of times but grow too fast for my table. Settled for hubbards in the end , slower growing and more .suited to out door living imo.
stevo79 569
I've tried all them sasos, cobs bloody horrible things to keep. Bough 100 sasos to rear for xmas market they weren't fun to rear at all imo. They couldn't stand up and just eat eat eat. No my cupa tea. If I was rearing just for my self I'd put an Indian game cock over a Wyandotte or s Sussex and rear the chick for the table. Takes a bit longer to reach killing weight but much more enjoyable than them commercial meat birds. Edited April 4, 2016 by stevo79
