Popular Post gwalchmai4110 1,757
I had a call out from a keeper sunday morning as he had seen evidence of Charles helping himself to things that don't concern him. loaded up early and set off for a look to see what I could do. this ground was a tad unfamiliar to me so I loaded up with a few different dogs for a few different jobs. I met the keeper and after a bit of banter and a catch up I boxed up a couple of the "white warriors" and we set of looking for the culprit. the place he took me to was quite clearly a rabbit warren and I thought for a minute he had lost the plot. the holes looked like a rabbit would struggle to turn in! the two mutts I had were chalk and cheese! I had mr reliable "patch" who is a small strong little dog as steady as the day is long and as reliable as clock work. the other "ffloyd" is a lump of a dog. (he is the one in the pictures). he is only a young dog and I have only dug him twice as his style is up and at em to say the least. now anyone who knows me will know I keep a line of SMALL strong type russels as most of the earths here are small rabbity places and I took on this pup with mixed views as I was worried about him being able to reach his quarry. BUT I do believe if the dog has the heart to match and actually wants to reach there quarry they will do. With this in mind I decided to put the theory to the test! I collared up "ffloyd" and let him loose, I didn't mind letting ffloyd try as I knew I had mr reliable waiting in the box for his call up. the big dog went around and around before squeezing into one of the holes concealed by brambles. I could here him pushing on and biting at roots, so atleast I knew there was no depth to this earth. it seemed to take an age before the welcome sound of contact came ringing out. I left him settle and began down to him. I broke through to a very lifeless quarry lay before the big man, he had certainly wasted no time in making this thief pay the ultimate price! I had to chip around him to free him a little and it amazed me how he had been able to carry out his job being as wedged as tight as he was! i was made up with the big mans performance and it kept my hand in on the estate so all in all a good day! just a shame it had to be this time of year! but a service has to be provided i suppose big dog, evan bigger heart 32 Quote Link to post

Reminds me of Russell's from my youth not ffloyds line like I say I bought in a dog with a view to use as an outcross if the day ever came and I was desperate. But the black and white dog in the picture is off a line that has been with my family for 30 years. no big names just worker to worker, and then back to a worker! so far so good! atb 5 Quote Link to post
