Looking To Take My Patt/jrt Ratting In Kent

Recommended Posts

Hello Everybody,

I'm new to the site today, I've got a four year old JRT cross Patterdale that I'd really like to take ratting. I'm having trouble finding any one who can show me the ropes, groups I have contacted have been really cagey with me (possibly thinking I'm an undercover animal rights nut??) I'm a female so I suppose that doesn't help either.

Anyway, if anyone could point me in the right direction, we've got lots of enthusiasm, just need a bit of direction. I live near Dartford.

Thanks!!

Being new doesn't help on here we are a suspicious lot it would help if you had the place to take someone so they could show you what and how after that you may get invites to go out with other people and their dogs

Thanks for all the welcomes.we re going rat hunting later on, down the creek.he's had one before out on his own but I reckon he's learn from other dogs.he doesn't socialise well with other dogs,he's quite aggressive, but seems to behave better with other terriers types his own size.I'm hoping letting him do what he's been bred for will help him get some of his aggression out.

If he's had one before then I don't think you'll need much help and you'll probably have trouble finding a hunting partner if your dog hasn't been socialised well.

Plenty of work will certainly help with your dogs aggression.

Rat control is usually done out of necessity, it's not pretty and there is usually lots of dirty smelly, toxic, infectious type of ground.

Hunting the odd rat down the creek is not really going to be enough calm an aggressive terrier. Although it may help.

Where did your terrier come from and do you know its working history/breeding.
