bobhow 57
Reading a article in the CMW on ferreting by THE HOBBLER this week he say,s he uses a harness with his mk 3 instead of a collar so i thought that sounds like a good idea some of my jills wont keep a collar on for love or money mostly i find collars pulled at the nets but on more than once ive had to dig to a empty collar any way to my point does any one else use a harness and wheres the best place to get some Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
I was forever untangling stinkers out of nets when i used harnesses 1 Quote Link to post
bobhow 57
kind of thought that might be the case but they still pull down a net with a collar on and i thought it would be better than digging to empty collars Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
Rakeaboot uses harnesses but only in the show ring Quote Link to post
bobhow 57
no show rings for me jamie. Wideboy there are loads of extra holes in my collars they still slip off my jills seam to have small heads and thick necks ive started working them with out collars (which i dont like doing ) then putting a collared hob in if one of the jills does not show thanks for you,re input anway Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
When you first start putting the collars in its easy to think there to tight, rule of thumb if youn can still spin the collar on the neck it's not to tight Quote Link to post
rabbit demon 302
I use the harness and mk3 on 2 of my jills. The fasteners do pull the nets more but its better than 6 ft digs to find the collar when it slips off. Iv put extra holes in the collars and they still come off. One of them hates getting her collar on and isnt long and giving a nip when she gets annoyed. So its much easier to use a harness on her. Quote Link to post
jok 3,266
Wouldn't dream of not using a collar. I can only recall 2 times digging for one. One of them was for a me 3 collar which I hate anyway. The days of harness are surely long gone. I'd rather send in a Jill without and if lost send down the hob with a collar. Quote Link to post

Make sure you can spin the collar around the neck without twisting their neck too much as you do so. Keeping that in mind, go as tight as you can. Jump to three minutes. You can see how I test the spin. You could go slightly tighter than shown there. But make sure it can turn because it could indicate it being too tight if not. Never had one come off with that technique. Quote Link to post
