Moorside 642
Alright lads, This is a bit of an expansion from the if you were starting again thread, we all have our preferred methods and types of hunting and most of us have a good idea of what breeding tends to suit what and where you run. Say you had empty runs and had to restock what would you get and why? My personal preference is lamping, mooching and a bit of terrierwork, I know personally I cant justify more than 2 real running dogs, id certainly go for a similar bred collie bull grey to my existing bitch to cover me for a bit of everything. Next would definatly be a well bred half cross bull grey dog. Then a heavily terrier blooded whippet x for bushing mooching etc. Thats my idea of an ideal team......what would be youres?. Chid 6,639
Reverse collie x , something that looks like a collie bit like sesku's bitch .. And a spaniel ... 2 Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I like your thinking Moorside. All round runner, heavier dog to stop heavier stuff should the ban get lifted and a fast busher. Something like my brindle bitch with a splash of bull would be my idea of an all-rounder, steady, turns her paw to most tasks, good nose, good ferreter, works well with a bushing terrier, good lamping dog etc. My second runner would be a big half cross bull grey. Then it would be 2-3 bushers. Certainly a whippet/terrier mix and I can't see me being without a Plummer terrier in the future. Good thread. 1 Quote Link to post
bird 10,013
iam very happy with what i got 1x gsd x grey, great lamping/mooching dog, dont think i can improve on him. he great in cover for big dog, he find any quarry big or small. i dont dig with terriers , so maye not get a terrier .Both my lurchers are good in the day Bryn and Buck , finding stuff, the only change i will make is to get a small type lurcher next beddyx whippet, as my next dog, only because iam getting older, somthing easier to handle in my old age lol . if i were younger i might have got a nice cocker dog with my lurchers, and bit of shooting with it,but as said my dogs do every thing i need right now 2 Quote Link to post
king 11,984
I've got what I want now. 38/58 bull X with a dash of collie. 1/2 X bull grey. And the wife has a border X jrt.who is enjoying bushing. And another well bred terrier is on the cards this year fingers crossed. 2 Quote Link to post
artic 595
It all depends what tickles your tastebuds. A "Good" Saluki X Grey maybe with a touch of deerhound, along side a "Hardy" whippet. Yes they're out there and very underestimated. You'll have some fun. 2 Quote Link to post

bob84 189
The only thing id change is the way I went about it with my colliehound bullhound I trained her solely for lamping and never really let her hunt for herself daytime only ferreting. Now she's playing catch up with my older bitch . 1 Quote Link to post
