Collie Grey Bull Grey Or Bull Grey Sal Grey

One thing I've learnt off this forum, if/when I take a litter from one of mine, I won't announce the plans on here

Why anyone feels they need to tell the world on these forums what they get up always amazes me...

I think it's because it's nice when like minded folk have got an interest in what you are doing. They ask questions and offer ideas etc. But you often get more negative responses than positive on here, regardless of what you are doing or how you are doing it.

:hmm:This is the nature of the Beast,..t'Internet...

It is great to be around like-minded souls,..just as long as they truly are, like-minded and not simply critics....Breeding from seemingly, untested young canines , has always been a contentious subject and in an ideal world, we would all choose to up our odds and try to go for a definite winning combo....Sadly, in the real world, life ain't like that....

You can lose,..way before, you choose,..and I've learn't to go with a gut feeling when breeding lurchers...If you have faith in the end result,..then bite the bullet, go for it and be damned...

I learn't, five decades ago,.that what a man chooses to keep,.or wishes to hunt,.is entirely a matter for his own conscience...he has to feed the critter,...end of story...

By the same token, it is comforting to know, that good advice is readily available on Hunting Forums,...and the fact is,..what with all the literature, DVD's and well documented knowledge, that is free of charge nowadays, there really is no excuse for being a c**t...

Another one who thinks you need to be years old to be successful at slipping a dog on moving quarry.   You could be a successful Olympic boxer at 20, gold medalist swimmer, you could be graduating

And sight hound. ...... how can you expect a even litter off mongrels? They'll be some throwing more to one breed than others..... simply breeding worker to worker isn't enough, there's a reason most hybrid animals aren't bred off, generally anything more than 3 different breeds in a animal is going to throw all sorts of variables

Game rooster, you're on a lurcher forum telling us how easy it is to apply the basics of genetics to working lurchers.

I will have a 26" bitch please, strong built but also capable of running all quarry preban, must like the sharp end but also be capable of retrieving smaller quarry live to hand and have good concentration skills for a days ferreting. Good feet, good coat and a good nose are also essential. The bitch must be steady around the home and the kennel, as happy in the pub on a Sunday as in the field on a Monday. And above all she must be able to produce pups as good as her.

Let me know when you have mastered the basics. Good money waiting ?

Reason I ask is I ve always run Bullgreyhound s and love the cross but I always wanted that quick take off and stamina. I have a half cross bitch about me that is game as they come but would love to have her drive with more pace. I was concerned that a collie cross over her would lose the drive so to speak. How do u find urs compared to the bull crosses with no collie

hes out of a 1/2 greyhound 1/4 bull 1/4 collie to a full greyhound he works out 1/8 1/8 3/4 greyhound i put him to a a 3/8bull bitch an thats what his pups from . i found hes a better lifting dog than the bull cross dogs av seen he knows when to strike when not to gets tight in behind stuff and very hard to shake him he would lift 9 out of 10 foxes you would slip him at but he defo has the drive you would want. if am out on my own i wouldnt need a lead on him stays just infront of you very smart dog on the lamp

That dog of Lloydys has been grafted hard & tested he's probably done as much as most dogs who have 4or5 seasons on him atb Flacko

I think some people get too hung up on age.

It's generally okay for a man to breed his 4 year old bitch, rarely would he be questioned how many shifts she has put in. But in reality that dog might have been out once or twice a week during the winter for 3 seasons.

But the man who's got a 2 year old dog which has been out 5/6/7 days a week plus nights gets shot down.

I can't see the problem with what as been said it's only what the man him self said few weeks ago and still stands by it. So I guess the rest think it's ok to breed a litter of bull x pups out of a bull x that as been catching rabbits for a season. 15 year ago this was the x I worked all over the country and breed a few litters of them but I would never of done this but I guess times must of changed lol.

Gaz, the fact you think all that's possible in just one breeding makes me realise you're not worth bothering with, and tbh most of what you've stated is down to the handler or experience of the dog.

Never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to there own level and beat you with experience, so with that in mind, I'm out

The fact that you just massively contradicted yourself makes me realise you ain't got a fecking clue what you are waffling on about.

Either it's not possible with one breeding, or it is possible and it's down to the handler and experience...

Which is it buddy?
