Barbarian1990 220
If you was after a all round running dog for mooching about with a terrier what would you go for? I like the idea of a greyhound x whippet with a bit of something added not sure what yet though. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Something leggy, fast enough but not a speed merchant, something with a bit of substance and coat. Bred from worker X worker doing the job. I wouldn't be too worried about the breeds in the mix. I used to get hung up on that a lot but not so bothered now. My young bitch is wheaten/collie/bull/grey. Only small amounts of wheaten bull and collie. Mostly greyhound. But she's strong, durable and quick enough with plenty of prey drive and wants the job. Next season will be the decider but I've got high hopes. 3 Quote Link to post
tb25 4,627
Just for rabbits? Quote Link to post
blackmaggie 3,377
has gaz said someting thats suits your ground and quarry of decent stuff doing what you want Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Just for rabbits? With him saying all round running dog I assumed he meant all rounder for pre ban or working abroad etc. For just rabbits I would say whip grey with a splash of bull, collie or beddy. 1 Quote Link to post
roybo 2,873
Something with fire a bit of speed and a little bit of brain (not too much) the breeds wouldn't matter if want the parents to do the thing I want ,but for following a busher about most nippy lurchers should be up to it. 3 Quote Link to post
Barbarian1990 220
That was my thinking about mainly greyhound/whippet with a bit of something mixed in. I had a old beddlington whippet collie greyhound but he could do with being a bit racier. Quote Link to post
terryd 8,649
some thing small and scruffy Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,740
Bed whip x Beardie grey, something on them sort of lines Quote Link to post
mad4it 695
as have been said depends on ground, pre-ban or just rabbits, for me pre ban a first cross bull greyhound or a collie greyhound with a bit of bull in it, rabbits a first cross collie greyhound or whippet collie or even just a whippet but than I bias as I am running a first cross collie greyhound and would not mind a pat or jrt cross whippet Quote Link to post
Barbarian1990 220
Just Incase ban gets lifted I'd like a dog to be able to do all quarry ? And with land there's alsorts from wooded areas to golf courses and everything in between. Cheers Quote Link to post
