I wonder what other uses the dogs had apart from the obvious ?

Didn't they use them as guard dogs at night in case of intruders in the camp.

Some tribe being held on a reservation against their will killed all their dogs the night before and sneaked off during the night without the army hearing them.

The solider's the next morning just found dead dogs.

Probably sled dogs during the winter months.
