hi iv been making wine from wilko kits and they have been great (if left long enough)

while mixing a kit up today it got me wondering if theres any ideas to make wine from supermarket stuff like fruit juice cordials or tinned fruit etc. Iv heard of turbo cider and will give it a go soon. it would be nice to save a few pounds and experiment!

has anyone had a go at making homebrew from stuff other than kits?

cheers

Tom.

i made some slider for Christmas and rather potent it was to, it's made by keeping the sloes from my sloe gin and sloe vodka, when bottling it up,then put all the fruit in a large sealable container and pour a gallon of scrumpy over it, you can drink it within a week and it tastes lovely and knocks your socks off, I left one a bit too long and it started fermenting and blew the tub up but I recon if you put one of those bubble valve thingys in the top it would just get stronger and stronger, that's for the next lot I do

google search for Wurzels orange wine. it makes a nice white wine using a carton of orange juice and a carton of white grape juice. ive made it a few times and its spot on.

you can make it from loads of supermarket drinks. vimto, ribena etc.

A fella i know makes a lot of homebrew and he often makes a batch of nettle wine ive never tried it but he rates it highly.

He comes down to a rough feild i have that i cant weed wipe and takes most of them he's happy and it saves me a job cutting them.

I think most farmers would be pleased if you wanted to go and harvest some.

I made Nettle ale a couple of times and it smelt awful but tasted nice. I make a batch of Elderflower Champagne most years.

But for ingredients out of a super market you wouldn't get easier than Ginger Beer and it's as nice as what you'd buy.

My brother took it to another level though and even grows his own Hops.

Just make sure you get pure juice and you will be fine, I used to make some from white grape juice that was very good, I started again last year and made damson port, and elderberry port, and intend to do loads more this year,
