trigger2 3,146
i use to ferret with a lad who always carried his ferrets in his jacket pocket he had them in a old leg off a pair of baggy jeans. he had a not tied in the bottom and threaded some shoe lace round the top to tie them in. worked a treat, his ferrets were use to being carried like that and just relaxed and lay still in his coat pocket. we had some nice little mooches terrier working the hedge a catty each with the ferrets and a few nets. i will say i never hit a thing with my catty lol. 3 Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,829
When we were at school we used old bank bags, used to get old suit jackets out of oxfam, we didn't have money for fancy jackets. Used to slit the linning in the jacket, ferret one side nets in the other, never took a spade as i could not afford a bleeper till i was 16. When i think about it now i must have been like Billy Casper. 1 Quote Link to post

krawnden 1,036
these are pretty pricey but probably the lightest ferret boxes out there, im saving up for one of these once ive built a ferret court http://falconfabrication.co.uk/ferretsupplies.php Wouldn't be my choice. I saw a couple of these in operation last season and the ventilation (in my view) is inadequate - the ferrets got pretty hot and sweaty. Quote Link to post
krawnden 1,036
If your wanting to travel light,,and go somewhere you shouldn't then a money bag or pillow case,,,in a pocket,,,or in a little rucksack,,,so you look like a hiker,,, As others have said there's no protection if you fall on it,,,,that said I never have,,, Another thing you can do ,,,is put a small single box inside a rucksack ,,,my mate vin had one specially made for this,,,with the box opening at the front rather than the lid,,,, It goes in the bottom of a rucksack,,,and there's a zip on the front of the rucksack,,,wich gets you to the box and the front of the box opens in to the zip,,,if this makes sense ,,, Also Rew on this site,,,uses a plastic bucket,,the type with a sealable lid,,,this also drops in the bottom of a rucksack,,,plenty air holes I'd be interested to see some photos of vin's setup if either of you have got any. I can't really visualise it. Quote Link to post

cragman 2,791
I bought a bag 20 odd years ago from K P and S nets. I've still got it now somewhere in the shed. Very hard wearing material. It's white with eye holes round the top where a pull cord goes, a bit like a duffle bag. Ok for travelling light which I used to do Quote Link to post
Raymond 618
I use the middles out out of a electric cable drum for bow, it has the shape in it, much easier than working it round. glued and tacked, leave to dry then trim up and sand, fitting thin stainless scratch plates, drill from outside, obviously fixed inside, lovely bit of work goes into them boxes 1 Quote Link to post
Chicken_man 1,651
Got these 2 boxes off Leeview and I'm very pleased with them. Lifelong Cumbrians boxes are excellent also, seen them first hand. I got my new boxes from Leeview, as I was getting tired from carrying what seemed like a hutch on my back. Atb 1 Quote Link to post

dogmad riley 1,347
There was a bloke on here who made himself a backpack for ferrets and basic equipment, it had a little ferret box at the bottom with access to ferret the other space was for nets and the spade just went down the back of the rucksack was a good design but can't remember his name. Was a cracking bit of kit for just walking around ferreting with dog Quote Link to post
The one 8,512
If I can do this to a unbreakable flask when I fall I will always have my ferrets in a box or the results could be disastrous. 1 Quote Link to post
