ratattack 111
Anybody on here do much game dealing at farmers markets etc? It's something I'm thinking of doing as I have a good background in game butchery from working in a dealer butchering venison a number of years back. Only looking to do one or two a week from home after converting the garage.
Yokel Matt 918
'Martin' on the site has a pretty sweet set up mate and could probably write a book on the subject. He's got a pinned butchery topic on here somewhere and has done a market for a number of years. He was taking a break for a while but would be a font of knowledge... http://sc-gamelarder.com If you read this Martin all the best mate and hope to see you up and running again soon. Rabid 1,936
I generally do a couple of markets a month, everything from live chickens to dead game in the fur (or feather) and Christmas turkeys, ducks etc etc
jok 3,301
Afternoon Rabid. Tell you what friend. Our local butcher has everything from me. Main reason is that I know where it comes from and do all the cutting and prep myself. Anything that shouldn't be going on the counter is binned (ferrets). What he pays me is astonishing and obviously greatly appreciated. My kitty is looking quite good. Still looking forward to the fishing but got to watch my dates. The marquee season has really got going and I'm head honcho so need to be about when the shit prevails.

The marquee season has really got going and I'm head honcho so need to be about when the shit prevails. That's probably my downfall, I don't deal with any local butchers, mainly as it's easier for me to do a load and put them through the market, I've, if I don't have enough time to pluck and dress chickens, they go in as long legged, if I have time to pluck and dress they go to private customers I have. To be honest, all game either goes straight to the game dealer for peanuts but no hassle, he keeps a book and pays up when I ask, (nice kitty builds up every few weeks) or it goes into auction market, sometimes get more than top dollar, sometimes not worth the effort, but I enjoy it and it means my time is not consumed entirely by it. I know I could make more money if I prepped everything and sold oven ready, I just don't want to spend my life doing it all that way. We will fit the fishing in at some point mate, it has to fit around my work as well, but I always manage to find time Always something to target all year round, it will come good

Tiercel 6,986
Fully dressed and looking good. I doubt crowns would sell. That's odd as when I suggested to you to crown them you said this. Posted 02 February 2016 - 07:07 PM Yes Tiercel I sort of agree. However my wife's mum was Greek and she taught us the tradition dishes which is with whole birds. We'll see what the butcher says. Then a little while later you came out with. Posted 09 February 2016 - 07:49 PM Eh up TC. Butcher chuffed to bits with the pigeons. He's asked for 20 a week for both shops. £1.50 each as long as they look like that. Quite pleased really. TC
