Fair enough be a boring world if we all if the same I suppose. But let's be honest you were having a pop lol it's okay though I am a sedate man. in truth if you have removed similar through the entire foot and not had infection without further treatment or precaution then I think you may have been a tad lucky. Especially as the nail or tack is rusty as. Anyway he is a tough little bugger in my eyes even if his owner isn't lol ps my family have always kept working terriers and i have seen plenty of dog injuries over the years, big difference between a terrier and a runner in my eyes especially where the runners feet are concerned.

If you can look after the needs of a working terrier a lurchers needs are pish and i was not having a pop,far,far from it.

You did right matt. Lurchers rely on their running gear and it could have gone horribly wrong if you didn't seek a vet's advise. Hope he recovers well and he is out and about soon

I know I did and truthfully I get mortons point about vets being used perhaps too frequently. But in this particular instance I have to disagree with him and say vets was a no brainer. Think he was thanking it was a just something in the pad as opposed to through the whole foot, but he won't admit that through pride lol. Dog is flat out for the night on his meds cheers

Pull out rinse any rubbish out soak in salt water ,leed walk or kennel rest for a few days job done,pull it out same way it went in what extra damage will that cause.

different scenario ... Pull it out, doesn't want to come out pull harder nick a few more blood capillaries maybe a ligament or tendon, rinse it out as best you can, tiny bit of debri left in come a week infection in foot dog or worse. Probably unlikely but certainly possible, dog out of action for a while. Vets done it a hundred times I haven't is it honestly worth the added risk? When I have spent best part of a year bringing the pup on for hopefully seasons to come. My family have kept running dogs for generations, I asked my old mans opinion and my uncles who have both seen more work than most are are IMO above average lurcher man, both said vet job straight away. I will stick with there opinions. The thread was about a tough little bugger not whether it needed the vets or not, that wasn't up for debate as if your were their it was a no brainer atb

WHY did you have to take them out at that time of day? WHY did you take a new route? WHY did you not have them on leads?. As you say matt the question is not WHY did you take him to the vet, you did what you thought was right for the dog. It happened and as far as I am concerned you were correct in your action. Forget the WHY's and remember the title yes " He is a tough little bugger"

You're dead right Matt. Those nails are made for nailing corrugated iron onto shed roofs and they have a spiral twist on the stem so that they won't pull out easily.
