bird 9,864
the real easy answer, is to catch from 1st slip, the more the dog misses the more it will keep hunting up. if the dog successful with each run, it will trust you with the lamp, and keep going back to you . walk up to your rabbits make sure the dog got real chance of catching the rabbit, once it starts to catch then give longer slips, get it on some daft summer rabbits, then by sep the dog will be bang on . 2 Quote Link to post

paulus 26
as already said, if it catches it wont hunt up. maybe shoot a few on the lamp with the dog and get it to retrieve them Quote Link to post

straight2hand 303
Is the dog allowed to hunt up in the daytime? Feck the lamping off and get that dog heeling in the day round the local field off the lead, build it up over time. When you do go Lamping go on the darkest nights like bird said when the dog has a good real chance to catch, no long slips from miles out in the rabbits favor. Basically the dog needs to know you and the lamp are the source for rabbits and hunting only happens when you provide it. But the main problem is poor recall above all else when you give the call it must come back or when the lamp goes off achieve this and you will be the one in control. Quote Link to post
jake824 517
Recently had a bull cross bitch sent down doing the same thing. I slipped her and she missed then decided to run 2 fields just pissing about.I walked the opposite way putting the light on by my feet only and she slowly made her way back . Through gritted teeth praise the dog up and make a fuss of em. Then I let her off again and repeat. When she did make a catch a few nights later she ran off with the rabbit. Again I walked the other way. The first rabbit she ate most of but again when she came to me I praised her again. Next night she picked up after a long run. This time as soon as she picked it up I walked the other way again with the light shone at my feet. Only so she knows I'm walking away from her. This time she came right to me with a perfect retrieve. It's just repetition and patience. Hope it helps mate . 1 Quote Link to post
