Alsation x greyhond?

Recommended Posts

The Malinois I've seen in the UK have been VERY sharp, is how I'd put it kindly! Not saying that the right ones aren't the business, but they do seem a bit quicker to boil over than a good line of GSDs, though I agree, I'd like to have that lighter build.

I agree, I've worked with a few and they aren't candidates for cuddly pooches.......My Shepherds both weigh below 70lbs and are very athletic and fit. A much lighter frame than the standard shepherd seen in this country. I think the mali's hyper excitable nature could be irritaing ina working lurcher........

ive only seen a few of the gsd crosses one sable coloured bitch about 24" looked more like the sheperd than the grey but great on the big stuff and took its fare share of bunnies, also a three quater grey gsd and that too was a good dog, to be honest ide love to try a first coss but never took the plunge,if the write breeding came round i think ide take one.

If i remember rightly didnt someone on hear put

a KNPV male mal over a GH bitch

not so long back

Mick..

KNPV is a more realistic "sport" and really tests dogs. Again, the sharp nature of mails is a real test and their high drive can make training "fun".........

chment=25182:06_10_07_1308.jpg]post-5621-1196361388_thumb.jpgHere is the Bitch and my pup,Currently cannot speak high enough of her in the field,What rabbits she has not caught yet would be my fault i.e moonlit nights, areas of lamp shyness slipping her on rabbits to close to the hedge, what she has caught would be down to her tremendous kick off speed agility and determination, she is currently catching one in every three slips and retreving to hand, steady as a rock with a ferret and dead marking, forgotten what a joy lamping is,admitedly have not run her on anything bigger but that wont be until next season in Ireland,so the Jury is currently out.

Have kept gsd for a long time now only working type no show and all mine hunt and kill like hounds, reguarding back problems my last died at fourteen.

Have run and kept most crosses over the Years as anbody who knows me will tell you, this is my first GSD cross Ihave heard only good things about them would be intrested in hearing the bad points and the reasons behind them.

Hi all, good interesting thread this! To say a Malinois is better than a GSD (or vice-versa) is like saying a Cattle dog cross is better than a Collie cross. In my youth I knew two pure GSDs that kept their familys in Game (meat); rabbit pheasant and hare. One of them would do anything that the best bred Bull crosses will do! Both these dogs, one a dog one a bitch were as clever as I have ever seen at finding and catching game. At the present I am working a pure Malinois bitch. "Fiz" is a yard or two slow for a rabbit or hare that has a bit start on her but if she finds them on their seat they are in serouse trouble. She is too hyper for my liking and because of this she will pass one or two well hidden bunnies, but eventully she does steady up and this is when she finds and catches more. Fiz is only about 13 months old and already very keen to FLUSH bigger stuff. A good mate of mine has a first cross Malinois Greyhound and a calmer steadier dog would be harder to find. But then again I know a couple of peple who have very good GSD cross Greyhounds. Regards Warren

Let's face it, there's not many people who actually need a dog to catch XX rabbits in a night are there? Its being out there and doing it that is the most imortant thing for most folk.

I totally agree with you there Skycat.

Also I think that Grounenadal cross is a stunning wee dog.

If I were to go for a shepherd cross, I think the first type of shepherd I would try would be the Rough coated Dutch Shepherd.

Have you got ant pictures of your

mates first cross MAL / GH

Also whats his weight height

Cheers Mick..

Sorry Mick I have no photos. The dog is big lish and rangey, he is about 27 inches. He is only about 12 months old but very steady and sensible, a good catcher, ( I do hear he has broken the law onc or twice on old long ears!!) and he definately knows what his nose is for. Hope this helps mick. Regards Warren

Hi, ive been thinking about an alsation x grey but dont know much about them. ive heard good and bad reviews from a couple of people. Anyone have any experience with them? oh yeah, i was told that an alsation and a german shepard are different dogs, i always thought they were the same

Get a Malinois x greyhound if you can get one. If you was going to use a guard breed this is it,

more agile, smaller[65lb] better Hips, and very Game. Thats what i would use.

mad-mouse

Malinois, sounds a bit more like it, can be a little bit firey, but very good work rates
