Rabbit Hunter 6,613
Does any Canon lense fit onto any Canon body? Im also after a good camera for general terrierwork photos. Every one that I've had has stopped working due to sand and grit getting into the 'zoom' mechanism. Any help appreciated.
J Darcy 5,871
High streets good to get your hands on a few different items, if your not to sure.. You can try a few different lens I disagree...I think if you go to the highstreet you end up coming out with a 70-300 f5.6 that the sales person says would suit your needs perfectly.....when it won't.... But hey, what do I know.....

Wish i knew more at start, i would have bought -200, i have vr turned off on my lens, slows it down for action shots and you don't need it anyway for action shots.
lifelong cumbrian 1,829
I agree 100% with j darcy, low light, fast action you are going to struggle with a slow kit lens. You could also pick up a 50mm prime cheap 1.4 or 1.8. Great for low light ferreting shots.

Then buy on line or what ever..

Yes, but you can't, and won't, buy the correct lens for dog work. Also you won't be able to buy a 2nd hand body either. The high street will try and sell people what they can make £ on, you are going to get NO unbiased opinions from them. And, besides, you won't find many fast lenses on the high street either. I am talking from vast experience, decades of in-the-field photography, having been amassing probably the biggest collection of working lurcher images in existance.... And it is of my opinion that a trip to the highstreet will cloud his judgement, not clear it!! He is not going to get ANYTHING for £500 in the highstreet that will take very good working lurcher images. In fact, he won't get it for a grand either...FACT!
Giro 2,648
Thanks for your "Facts".... You can get good second hand bodies in the high street, at Wilkinson "Fact" lol.. Wilkinsons give you 6 months warranty on all second hand goods. That's another "fact" for you. . The man's setting out with a £500 budget and Prehaps don't want to jump in the deep end with big white lens.. Darcy it's maybe a generation thing.. I'll go up town and try on a pair of trainers, then buy them on line.. Maybe the guy just wants a few half tidy snaps for himself. . Which you don't have to spend thousands on.. Omanyra 2,518
I would buy second hand, people always upgrading. I buy all my gear second hand, you save a fortune, ebay gumtree, preloved all sorts of places for a bargain. I think lenses are more important than the camera body, you need a decent camera but i would spend the bulk of the money on a quality lens or two. don't know anything about canon but you can get a nikon d300 for a couple of hundred pounds and spend the rest on a quality lens, i have a d300 and i can't take better pics on my d700 that cost 3 times as much. Just my opinion anyway, hope you get sorted. I always buy second hand, as thats what I can afford.. Edited March 15, 2016 by Omanyra

Just my opinion anyway, hope you get sorted. I always buy second hand, as thats what I can afford..Ive only ever bought one camera new, a Nikon D300.. Yes you can get D300 and D300`s cheap now, a couple of hundred quid for a cracking camera, in good light and lower ISO `s but totally suitable for wildlife. I had a D700 and D300 and must admit I couldnt get away with the full framer at first, but, I once I mastered it, I would never go back to a DX D300...full frame cameras always produce better quality images.. My D700 has 300k +accuations..if it goes, then it will be another one for me, around £500+ second hand on ebay. We think alike. my d700 and d300 both second hand. Think d300 was about £800 new in its day, bomb proof camera, those cheaper end ones are not the same quality, you would probably get a d300 for a couple of hundred as you say. Good thing on ebay is feedback , no one with 500 deals 100% feedback is going to try and sell you a duff camera.
