Tiercel 6,986
If you want a VPN just use the TOR browser. That will give you access to the dark net also, word of warning though re TOR it is really hard to remove once installed. TC

If you wanted to go looking for them then yes. I downloaded it once to have a look see. Some of the sites have to be seen to be believed. That said, when I asked a mod to give me my ISP they could not. It took a long time to delete it from my computer though. This thread started me thinking about trying it. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/349818-the-dark-web/ TC
Blackbriar 8,569
Isn't a VPN an add-on piece of software ? I only want to use geo-blocked content, not all that deep, dark stuff !

Is there a problem with having it on your laptop?
Tiercel 6,986
A Virtual Private Network just as you say keeps your IP# secret through routing through many different IP's which allows you access to geo-restricted content. The most reliable ones have to be paid for. As opposed to using TOR which does it for free. TC
walshie 2,804
If you just want to change your IP address so it isn't a UK one just for the session, you can use hotspot shield I think it's called.

BIGLURKS 874
It's handy for iPhones if you have unlimited data you can turn your iphone into a wifi hotspot and not get charged for it and the same if your in a diffrent country and don't want too get charged the data roaming charges it tells the company you are still in Britain and you could be using your data in Amsterdam and not get charged the only problem with using a vpn full time is it takes everything longer too load pages and if you don't want any one too know were you are

Torquemada 288
VPN is just a way for one computer to connect to a network of computers securely and share files and services. It doesn't block your IP address. In the past it was used by people working on my road or at home to connect to a business network. If you are accessing a VPN to view blocked content you are leaving yourself open to hackers and malware as likley they can access your computer via the VPN too.
