That's the sort of thing I've got in mind Stevo. A bigger faster terrier.

 

I reckon that Russel/Whippet of Tyla's back to a terrier would be just what I'm thinking.

 

As said I'm just toying with ideas for the future. I've not really got any restrictions on what dogs I can and can't keep. And I've got plenty of rough land to go at for daytime mooching where a small bobbery pack can do their thing.

He was bred in Scotland so I didn't see the rest of the litter as pups but I kept up with a few on here. The whole litter was pretty level in size and stamp and by all accounts did well enough. I had lost touch with them all by their second season so don't know any more than that. As for the breeding, who knows? The Russell could've had a bit of bull in somewhere and the whippet a bit of grey but as far as I'm aware he is first x.

At ruffle what hight was it standing Gaz ? My uncle used to have a parsons jackRussell x whippet she stood at 16" awesome in the bush and cought her fair share out in the open but struggled when the grass was long

i have a 3/4 bred whippet borderlakeland he is quick enough for any rabbit just doesnt like dogs while on the lead but hes got that from his father the whippet.

Thanks krawnden his mother is border/ Lakeland x whippet put to my whippet they have prey drive to spare will go through owt to much really at times his brother was killed last week chasing rabbit onto road the man who owned him was gutted as he was coming on great.

Sorry to hear about his brother. That's a constant worry of mine too. I was doing a paid ferreting job a couple of days ago near a road. Not much traffic on it, but the cars that do drive it tend to be going pretty fast. I was checking out the boundary hedge, which was thick hawthorn and blackthorn with sheep netting tight against it on my side. About 40 yards from the road my terrier marked a rabbit in the hedge. Before I could get her on the lead she'd dived through the sheep netting and pushed a rabbit out. I saw it come clear of the hedge and run towards the road on the other side of the boundary, with my busher yipping her head off in hot pursuit. Somehow I smashed through the hedge (getting horribly ripped and bruised in the process) and ran for the road. By the time I got there I could hear a car approaching, but no sign of the dog. I ran out into the road frantically waving my arms to slow the car down (which it did to a degree, but not massively). About 15 seconds after it passed the busher ran into the road from the other side, obviously having lost the rabbit. As she came towards me another car came round the corner heading our way and I got her on the lead just before it reached us. Luckily my lurcher hates thick cover and had made no attempt to push through with me otherwise I'd have had a second dog on the road to contend with.

 

If the timing of that rabbit/car combination had been ever so slightly different it could easily have been a very different outcome. I've had a promising young dog killed on the road before and never want to have to go through that heartache again. My heart goes out to the owner of your dog's brother.

Lovely dog Tyla looks a useful one. That has thrown huge for a 1st x Russell whippet though at that size not the norm that one. If they all ended up like yours I would guess they would be more popular. Did the rest of the litter end up similar size? Atb

I thought that. Maybe because the Dam was the whippet?

And a non-ped at that? Possibly some greyhound a bit back?

 

Not many non ped racers that don't have greyhound in somewhere along the line. Nice russell cross.

That's exactly what happened to the dog smashed into the thick after rabbit to close to the road but tha road is busy so he got hit I was lucky a few year back with the whippet at the same area so I tend to keep clear now cos if the whippet gets anywhere near he would do the same thing again he has a strange memory seems to remember the ones he missed at certain spots forever so I have to be careful with him or he will bolt to the area where he missed them and nothing will deter him ( the Cnut)
