A lad i used to know had 2 russell/whippet types a long time ago handy ferreting mooching catch in cover dogs used to work old railway embankments copses waste ground etc suited him fine a couple of rabbits the odd bird he was happy. The majority of lads near me wanted lamp dogs daytime hare dogs horses for courses. Limited in what they could do but one mans meat is another mans poison as they say. .The ones i saw were good little opportunists. Forgot to add they would work cover well and hit brambles like little rockets.

Isn't that a wee russell/whip on that old out of town video, when he was out ferreting?

yes it is If memory serve me right I think he called it a coney dog,

I wish that OOT was still on too it better than most of the crap that on now a days.

A few years ago someone did me 9 dvds 4 episodes on each one of oot fantastic to watch. One episode is of a bloke rearing kingfishers and releasing them back in the wild the most intresting viewings i have ever watched.

Think the answer was in the first post. Yup end up with a dog that is compromised on speed for a decent runner and size for an out and out bushing dog. If you can live with the compromise then I would guess you could have plenty of fun with this x. I have seen a fair few whippet x Beddies struggle daytime on bunnies when the odds are stacks against them. I will always stick to dogs for specific jobs and I am not the most demanding of owners atb

My mindset,i own bushers that thrash about and bush,i own catchers that rely on the bushers endeavours,at times,id not attempt to own just 1 that could do both tasks,it would do them both poorly.

Get a Beddy busher,once you have seen a good un you will never have anything else.Ive had Russels,Beagles,Spaniels and a multitude of Heinz terriers and they all did the task in hand with conviction,some came close,none surpassed.

I've got a cracking busher. She doesn't miss a thing. As said above I was just thinking out loud as to why we don't see more of these little dogs.

Brambles strip a Beddy better than any brush,its a case of a little tidying up around the edges with some scissors.

a good whippet x terrier is a serious little dog to have amongst any pack ,going by the 1 I owned many moons ago they certainly stand out from the crowd , to this day I am yet to own a dog that could come any where near the catch rate this little thing done ATB TONY
